Tire wear?

Try on a set of Pirelli Diablo Rossa Corsas. They are the pic of most coaches/instructors/control riders who's orgs use Pirelli. Great on the street, decent in rain, stickier than the supercorsa SP (not SC race tire)oem tires, need no warmers and wear much better. I know a few really fast guys that can take these to expert race pace on thunderbolt, as in low 1:30s. I used the 190/120 on the Pani and the slide from spinning up off the corner is very smooth and predictable. They now have the 200 rear. You wont read about these in magazine reviews because Pirelli is promoting the SP, as they should for $400 plus a set. While they look like the SC race tire, they are not in the same league. Ask around the track, these are an awesome yet cheap tire.

+1 - I had several sets of these on my Streetfighter and found them to be excellent. I'll prob switch to these shortly on the 1199 too.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Pirelli Rosso Corsa, it's good to have options. I just priced these out at BikeBandit.com, which is pretty good on prices.

The 120/70 200/55 set is $347.90, with the 190/55 tire being $7 less.

The Q3 set is $268.90, and the $40 Dunlop rebate is good through the end of April.

At that price, the Rosso Corsa would have to be so much better than the Q3 for me to choose it, and the Q3 is the official tire for California Superbike School, Star School and Yamaha Champions school, among others.

I couldn't agree with you more. I would love to try them! but not for $100 more. im in love with the Q3 for now.

If you are shopping price and are not more than an intermediate trackday rider, then the Q3 is the way to go. If you are fast at the track, the DRC will kick its ass and still hold up well. That being said, don't let the "official tire of....." Steer your purchase, it's the reason they run them. Dunlop is giving them to them cheap or free to promote them. They'd run Avon if the price is right! :)

I hear you, but I don't think the schools would use them if they didn't hold up to their faster riders/sessions. Who's to say that Pirelli didn't offer to be the schools' tires as well, and the schools chose Dunlop? All conjecture I guess.

I've actually never used a street-rated tire at the track before, in over 20 years of riding on track. I've always preferred to go with full race compounds/slicks just to have the safety margin of the maximum grip. However, with tire development being what it is, the Q3s/Rosso Corsa/BT-003RS tires of today are probably better than the race rubber I used over 10 years ago. I really need to try the latest generation of street/track rubber at my next track day just to see for myself if I can still do the lap times but just on a cheaper budget.

I jest about the avons but I assure you, they take the best deal, as long as the tires are capable. The Q3 and any other street tire will be ridden past it's limits by their faster riders, but riders that fast are comfortable sliding around. Probably the most desirable attribute to a good street/track tire is the predictability and nature of its slide. I have Pirelli race slicks on the Duc now but coach with DRCs on it. No warmers and use the side stand between sessions. I have slid the front, the rear and both. Unless you are in the upper half of the advanced group, the only place you'll slide is on the throttle off slow turns, and TC keeps it reigned in. Give them a try. If you are an intermediate rider, try the Pirelli superbike pro trackday slick, it's cheap and pretty sticky for that pace.
10 yrs ago? The sport touring tires have better grip than the race tires I used in the late 80's :)

Excellent description and the feedback I was looking for. I've used the Pirelli Superbike Pro slicks a lot and they are great for my track day (not racing) pace and last forever while being very consistent. They don't have the outright grip of the Dunlop N-tecs , Bridgestone BT-003 DOT's and Michelin slicks that I've used previously, but enough for me at this stage in life where longevity and consistency is more important than sprint-race grip.

Are you saying the DRC's are grippier than the Superbike Pro slicks? That would be amazing as the DRC's are slightly cheaper than the Superbike Pro slicks. I've also heard that the new 200/55 Superbike Pro slick has been revised and is stickier than the 190/55 that they launched that line with.

The new Pro has a revised carcass and a different compound, and I haven't tried them. I'm not sure that comparing a new DRC and a new Pro that the DRC has anymore ultimate grip (although it may) but I know the DRC canbe pushed past it's traction limit more confidently. Most advanced riders have been unhappy with the pro glazing over fairly quick and going off when hot. I've seen a lot of guys go real fast on DRCs, and have seen guys switch from the pros to DRCs ands be happier. The added benefit is the DRC works in the wet. Give a set a try.

On the street your hard pressed to be sliding around on either tire.

We pushed some tires to the edge and it took some new greasy pavement, tar snakes and sand, gravel, and imbeded clay to get the tires to come out from under you.

The Q3's generally offer better midline stability over the SC's and a hair better wet grip.

On the track I believe scrapper to be correct, but the difference is not huge.

Absolutely right.

is this an on track comparison or do you just ride a lot harder than me in the corners on the street? that wouldnt be hard since i live in Florida and probably dont stay in corners long enough to really get them sticky so you probably have better experience. i cant tell the difference exiting my favorite corners but this may be the reason...

Track day comparison.

For the street the Q3 probably would be better because they last a little longer, better in the wet and cheaper. Like Outhouse said you will be hard pressed to get either tire to slide around in the street unless you are acting a fool. With todays advance tire technology any DOT tire is pretty good on the street for me.

I wished Dunlop Q3 made in 200/55/17. With the 190's I just don't like it when Im leaned over seeing the T/C light flickering knowing that my fuel is being shut off/misfiring. Ive read people said just dial T/C down a bit but then whats the purpose of having T/C if its not there to save you when you want it to?

I think Ducati should make maps for different tire sizes. Hell the TC in wet mode isn't mapped for the Supercorsa SP V2. I like the 180's and 190's for faster turn in/transition. I don't need that 64 degree lean angle like JLo/MM

Either I ride like a bitch, or my front tire was bionic....
I had about 7,2xx miles on my front tire before I replaced it.

Craziness...

I have 1500 on my tires and my front is shot. Not too pleased about it, but besides the low milage I like the pirelli's.

I tried to tell my dealer that I was not forewarned about this fact.
His reply was: you are obviously having fun with the bike and are riding it the way it was meant to be.

I have never had a bike that went through front tires faster than my Pani
