anyone have thoughts if it's possible to change the flywheel and the rods with the new R parts?

costs... ??

I'm sure you can......but would probably be more $$$ than its worth. My .02 get an R

For sure. Labor and parts will be $$$ even if you do it yourself.

I already lightened my flywheel - I drilled a bunch of random holes in it. The engine vibrates a bunch, but I think it revs faster.

Just mask off your tank and put some paint stripper on it. That plus Trauma's flywheel mod and voila, instant R.

to go from a base to an R in holland used Base is like 23.000 Dollars!.

so i don't believe it's that much to change the rods and the flywheel haha

I checked a while back, it was less then 2 days to R&R the engine, the rods can be obtained for 2K probably. Thye flywheel, no telling when it willbe available. Certainly les than 5K to do this. Much less than the hit to trade up, especially if you have modded your bike.

As I asked before, what benefits do you get? I have yet to see power/torque comparison with an S? If it revs faster, how has it changed the power/torque band?

Unless you just want it feel satisified and get some bragging rights!

The immediate advantage (on paper/physics) is with 500 rpms you can lower the gearing, giving you more power down low, while maintaining the top end of the Base. Anithero is on another thread describing his experience with the difference, he sounds very impressed.

I have owned a Tri for 6 months, I am trading in my Tri for the R and it is costing me less than the 5k difference That you have come up with to change out the rods and lightened flywheel/crank.
And I am getting all the carbon bits and a full Termi system to boot.
The R is a bargain, no matter how you slice it.

My .2 cents

Or you could just change all of your profiles to run on 195Hi , I hear the throttle really comes alive at that setting.

No, that's cool. I have a base, with several mods. Sounds like you got a good deal. I am thinking 3 people will upgrade:
1. Lotta money, want it latest/greatest, don;t care about the cost
2. Racers that really, really, need that extra oomph to beat th1 Rs and ZX10s, will find a way to purchase.
3. The reast of us, that don't really need it, but want it, and have to look at the economics of it.

Trauma, it's all good bud
I personally like "Factory Hotrods" and this bike fills that.
I like to see all the modding that you guys do, but me I want to buy it straight from the factory all modded.
I used to race 410 winged sprint cars on dirt, the engines alone were over 50ks, so this bike all decked out at 30k is cheap in comparison.

Yup, you can't go wrong with this bike, just wait till all the mags get hold of it. It will be fun to read the reviews!

Motorcycle News wasn't too impressed with it. You guys would buy a used condom if it said Ducati on it. $20 says the HP4 still whips its ....

As a piece of exotica, it’s worth every penny, if you’re lucky enough to have the cash – it’s beautiful, exciting and involving. The chassis and engine mods will be a must for top teams in superbike and superstock, too, but the R doesn’t feel different enough to warrant trading up from your Panigale S or Tricolore.

I read MCN's review and if anything it just speaks to how well built the platform this bike was built on really is. With each offering the changes seem to be more tweak/refinement oriented. Should make base owners proud to own and the rest of us tiered Ducatisti happy that the specific tier we are in happens to suit our respective needs vs the others.

Well, it's not. The triple isn't numbered and it seems to have far less bits than previous R's or SP's. I wouldn't argue that it's not a good buy though.
