For the guys that work on your bikes
Do you torque all the smaller bolts on the bike ?

I have a 3/8 torque wrench that goes from 10to 80ft lbs (13.6-108.6 NM ) and a large 1/2 inch wrench for the wheels but what about anything that needs less than 10 pounds or 14.6NM ?
I removed the forks and for the 6 bolts on the lower clamp it calls for 8NM on each bolt
Should I grab a smaller 1/4 inch torque wrench for the smaller stuff ?

I was looking at this small wrench for $45

1/4” drive Inch pound and convert, or 1/4” drive nm, or proper thread locker for application and elbow if ya don’t want it to fall apart

Know I’m gonna catch some .... for that last one

Cam caps on Ward pro stock cylinder head call for 80 inch pounds. After using calibrated wrench and having one of the caps come off going thru the lights in the semi finals (and therefore not being able to make the final even tho I won semi) I started doing it the way I wanted to originally. Rick Ward who designed and manufactured the head had talked me out of it

For those 3/8” and 1/2” drive wrenches, at least the ones I have, the clicks are super light at the low end of the range. To the point it’s very easy to miss.

For something as low as 10 ft-lbs I wouldn’t use a torque wrench. Maybe engine work or something more critical than bodywork.

That being said, I have a Wheeler Fat Wrench that I bought for torquing rifle scope rings. I think it maxes out at 70 in-lbs. It has very positive clicks at very light torque values.

On small bolts I have never torque anything
Usually just put blu locktide or grease and torque by hand
But I feel like suspension and brakes are one of those that are better be safe than sorry
Just wanted to know what everyone’s doing and what were using.
For the brake caliper I just ordered titanium bolts ready for safety wire

Everything suspension or brake that I’ve run across has higher torque specs. Things like caliper bolts and subframe bolts I’d always torque. But, there’s also a torque procedure for caliper bolts the subframe bolts are suppose to be replaced with every install.

Oh wow I didn’t know that about the subframe
I remove my steel subframe and I’m waiting for an aluminum one from a 1199R
Eventually I want to buy a set of titanium for that but I was going to used the same ones, I did cleaned them really good and was going to grease them again and properly torque

This 3/8 Snap On electric torque wrench is the good good but comes at a price. I doubt your Tekton torque wrench is very accurate under 15-20ftlbs anyways. I do everything on my bike by hand most stuff probably over tightened lol but i try not to hamfist my stuff to hard. Torque what you can and use common sense for the rest.

Yeah snap on is on another level
I have a friend who’s a mechanic
He’s got tens of thousands of dollars in snap on tools!

In all fairness, I never replaced the subframe bolts. I just cleaned and re-greased them. But, I think the brake caliper torque procedure and wheel install procedure is more important to adhere to than the torque spec.

Got it
Yes the order and procedure I have it down [emoji106]

Replace the subframe bolts every time you remove them...

Nice try Ducati

Try to find those bottom 2 bolts anywhere besides the dealer

$40 for a couple of cheap shot peened steel bolts

I got the Ti ones from podium for less than that

Podium is great, good quality for the price!
I’ve gotten a few sets and more coming
This bike had been neglected, not mechanical since it had a good service history but a lot of the bolts were stripped and many more rusted as hell!
I replaced some with good ones I had laying around from my other 2 848s I had before
And now that I’m replacing them with titanium I’m putting them in bags with notes. in case I ever move to a 959/1299 in the future I can take all the titanium for that!

How did you even find them on their ....... website? My God what an awful browsing experience.

That is an excellent torque wrench which can convert from in/lbs to Nm to ft/lbs to angle torque...in press of a button. You can get it for way less than that, I do have one as I am mechanic by trade and working on my Ducati I use it all the time... Other option is to buy 1/4 drive in/lbs clicker torque wrench and you can convert your ft/lbs to in/lbs and vice versa by multiplying or dividing by 12.

I bought a 3/8 Teng torque wrench for smaller bolts. It might be 5 - 25 ft lb, but check on that. Paid £40 or so of our English pounds, is Red, comes in a red case, and a pleasure to use, with a positive click that my larger wrench does not have. I may upgrade my other wrench now, its that good.

I just ordered that 1/4 torque wrench from Amazon $40. Should come handy once I do right engine cover as well
I have their 3/8 torque wrench and I like it
The 3/8 works well for the front wheel nut since that’s only 63NM (rear is 180NM on the 899)

Have an older wrench for the rear wheel nut but I will upgrade to a better one soon

Thanks everyone
