Appologies to those that saw this on the 959panigale.net forum - I posted it there but forgot that one is kinda dead (no diss)

So last season it was the transformation form street bike to track bike. This season is the transformation for track bike to race bike. Going into it I pondered if it was a foolish endeavor since the V2 was just released and I will end up getting one. I was hoping a lot of my parts wold just bolt onto V2 and I would just have to wait for plastics to come out, sadly the is not the case. So I decided that I would go forward with the 959 for this season, which wasn’t a hard decision to make as I love this bike. Before the comments come yes I know that I will have to be racing liter bikes in CCS and I am fine with that, but this reality has me looking to squeeze a bit more power out of the bike. Bike is currently in the shop getting an overhaul as I type, here are the changes we are making to go racing.

+New fairings with removable CF belly pan
+Akra Ti manifolds - I previously was just running slips
+Remapping with Tuneboy for new mani/headers + tuned for VP T4 race gas
-Switching from BSD Blip Box Pro to the TuneBoy quickshift system to hopefully get rid of some quirks I had last season and to get rid of some extraneous hardware
+Changing to flat linkage and adjustable ride height
+Servicing Öhlins carts and shock, adding stiffer springs up front
+I2M Chrome Pro Dash - eliminating the AIM Solo 2 Dl from my cockpit, less clutter and data analysis software that runs native on Mac
+Removing ABS module, new brake lines, BSD setup

I think that is the gist of it, pics to come soon

where did you find the Titanium Akra manifolds? I’ve got the slip on my 1299. Exposed Stainless steel pipes were rusted and .... brown.
I polished the pipe up real nice but I think the next step is to dreamer out the flapper valve inside the stock pipe or replace with Akra Ti manifold

This is awesome Karl, what kind of power are you looking to put down?
The very reason why you hesitated is the same reason i got rid of my 959 and got the R.

I agree the 959 is an amazing platform.
I look forward to your posts.

Yeah I know man, as you know that is exactly what Kevin did also. Honestly it makes more sense financially to go that route. I just do not want THAT much power at this point. Uncertain what to expect, but along with all the weight I shaved off of this thing it should be pretty good. Especially with the new tune and T4

Yes, it is exactly why i went with the R. I looked at the 959, said, ok, full exhaust, Ohlins suspension, light wight rims, blipper etc etc. Add those all up and you will spend $8,000. I lost a lot less than that on the trade in, plus its an R. I got my 1199r brand new in a showroom for 26k. it will depreciate less overtime. Not that we do this sport in the impact of saving money in the slightest bit.
The 1199r is a beast, trust me it is a fun ... beast to learn to run hard though :)

^^^I definitely do not think that is what I need introduce to my learning curve at this point, ha

A set of Lightweight race wheels. A better slipper clutch may be helpful but depends on track and ride style.
You would be approaching the max level of mods for the 959 without it just being a waste money that looking at a better bike.
I was doing track days on my 899 and was tossing up between another bike or working on the 899. I ended up finding a basic track spec 1199 and kept the 899 for the road.

I have light wheels OZ GASS (2 sets, 1 with rains ready to go), I have well passed the point of the platform not making sense financially, that is what I was speaking to above. Really dont have any interest in 1199/1299/v4, I will get a V2 next.

Hi Karl,
I did my 959 a little after yours last year and loved it - best track bike ever. (also added a new Ohlins shock and a couple things)
This year I added the BlipBox but have not ridden it yet. What issues did you have with it?
Have fun racing!

Matt honestly nothing major and I would most likely chalk it up to user error. It did feel like the operational window on down shifts fluctuated. Sometimes it would sound/feel like it was downshifting but it wasn’t, making for some sketchy moments. I wouldn’t be changing at all if I wasn’t doing a new tune. Since tune boy offers a solution and that is the tune I am going to use I am going to give it shot. I wouldn’t hesitate to throw the BSD blip box pro on, they make great stuff

Just curious: what did you do to the brakes if anything? and what pads are you running?

I already did Brembo billet master, GP4 RX calipers with Z04 pads. Big difference, but now I am removing ABS so it should be even better

Golly! That oughta make it stop;). Seriously, that is about as good as it gets. I might be able to afford the pads and an upgraded master

So got the bike back and feeling pretty good about the setup. Just hoping to be able to get in track early may hopefully first CCS round end of may.

Couple things, I2M dash does not support 959, they have 899/1199/1299 support but not 959. Mine is set to 1299 rn and shows an error code on the diag page and shows a value for DWC which doesn’t exist obvsly. Everything else is working no problem. Now I will say it is a lot to spend for something that isn’t a seamless solution, I will confirm everything is functioning correct after first weekend in may.

With tuneboy we were able to gain just over 10rwhp 144.96 with 74.16 torque (on VP T4), with new quick shift and auto blip running smoothly. I think this version of tuneboy has launch control so I will report back on that also after first weekend. Also I ended up adding a Ti header mani pipes that helped get the numbers up also

New fairing are armoire bodies and the fit and finish is much nicer than the MotoXp fairing I had previously and they allow for the carbon belly catch pan that we installed.

New Ducati Corse RS rearsets are very nice, way more adjustment options and narrower foot pegs for more clearance. I was dragging my woodcrafta all over the place.
