Just curious if anyone else has this issue, for track purposes. Wasn't sure where to post this, since I don't race and I guess it's a tech question. I'm having a hell of a time getting my knee into the tank cut out. I'm literally on my tip toe to get my knee close to it and can't ride that way. With a little calf flex, my knee hits the subframe, which is manageable, but not optimal for me. For those of you that can, how tall are you, what are your rear sets and what seat are you using. (I'm 5'11, Rizoma RRC and stock seat))

Did you raise your rearsets all the way up? Mine feels great now.

I just did that, but the Rizoma's only have 2 vertical positions. iirc, you have the Lightechs and I think they're more adjustable. How tall are you?

I'm using stomp grip as well. Are you referring going down the straight or cornering? I'm 6'4" using stock rear sets but I have a race "superbike tail" no seat just a 1/4 seat pad. I'm having no issues using my inner thighs to pull the bike down. I really have not concerned myself with my knees. You just have to find out what works for you. Good Luck!

I am using Rizoma rear sets, stomp grip. I use the race seat
It is higher at the front and helps to get locked onto the tank
compared to the standard seat. Height 5,11.

Thanks for the response. I mean just before turn in, I like to lock my outside knee and hence, inner thigh into the tank and heel against the guard to stabilize my lower body. On the Panigale my knee is only as high as the subframe. It just doesn't feel as comfortable or as secure, but I suppose I'll just have to work with what I have. I was just curious what other people thought.

I have tank grips. I'll try again with the race seat though.

Sounds like your body position is on point, just keep doing what you are doing, dip that inside shoulder down and away and your head on the outside of your windscreen. I had been riding an R1 for years so when I made the switch to the Pani my first session on the track was awkward. I felt like I was sitting on 3 text books (really high). By the second session I was in love. Liter bike power with the agility of a 600, the best of both worlds. Next time try hanging off the bike more and see if that makes a difference.

Having my lower body secure gives me more confidence with this bike. I really can't have any weight on the bars as any little unplanned input disrupts this bike. Having my knee up into the tank is just the way I've always done it, so I don't even think about it anymore. It just happens, except on this bike it feels different. I'll figure it out, just need more laps on it. Exactly like you said though, a liter engine on a 600 frame.

Dude, I hated this bike when I tried it the first time. As you saw, I loved it the second. We were gellin like Magellan!

Yeah you had this big Pani hating RC8R loving thing going on :D, why the transformation? What did you do?

I sold the RC and needed more seat time on the Duc. I also customized just about everything I could, I'm on the fence about knee grips. My suit has grippies on it, and I didn't feel I was sliding forward.

Will you share? I haven't done anything new with my suspension except get it set up. The tech said I should get a stiffer rear spring and upgraded fork internals, but I'm holding out until I try adjusting what I have. I'm not a racer or even advanced, so I can't really justify upgrading my suspension until I have the skills that make it necessary.

I don't think you necessarily need tank grips if your suit has them. But, you definitely need something.

Nothing special. If you don't have the 41T, you have to get it... I have a full Termi and I noticed an improvement over the slip at the track.

I changed my grips (....... awesome Domino GP dual density), rearsets, levers, seat, set my sag (running the stock race damping settings worked for me), and adjusted my shock linkage out 1-2mm (surprisingly makes a difference keeping the front down).

Nothing crazy like some of the guys with WAAAY more money than me, but I'd still give them a run for their money using what I have...

I also worked a lot on my body positioning. I get pretty far off the bike and pretty much counter balance it through the turns. If you can, go to a school like YCRS. It really helped...

When I went to the track with the stock rearsets, I was slipping off them (even with RIzoma pegs) and had trouble reaching them with the outside foot.

I have the 41T set up and got my bike with the full Termi. So, what exactly do you mean adjusted the shock linkage... decrease preload?

I worked on body position, braking and improving my vision for 2 straight days at CSS this last week. My second time at their 2-day school. Money well spent. Of course, we rode s1krr's and that bike is like a really fast aircraft carrier compared to ours. That's interesting that you and the other guy above said you hang off more on this bike. Cornering, my head is just outside the edge of the fairing. I guess I'll have to act more like a spider monkey.

No, you can shorten or lengthen the shock itself. When I corner, I drop my elbow, half cheek or more off seat, head inside just over the clip-in, elbow on gas cap...
