Trouble locking in to the tank

No, you can shorten or lengthen the shock itself. When I corner, I drop my elbow, half cheek or more off seat, head inside just over the clip-in, elbow on gas cap...

Yeah, that's above my pay grade. I'll ask the tech about it though.

Body position sounds the same. You just carry more corner speed than I do...

What I really need to work on is trail breaking later into the apex and using my rear brake. Everyone is afraid to use it, just set it up properly and know proper technique. One of the best drills I ever did was several laps with no front brake to get a feel for how strong the rear is and how it feels.

One of the drills I was doing was trying different rates of release of the front brake after turn in. 1 sec, 2 sec... trying to keep the front forks compressed and not bouncing up and down. One time, I tried adding rear brake and locked up the rear wheel. Scared the living .... out of me.

On the Pani? I find it hard to lock up.

S1000rr... Can't use your own bike at their 2-day school unfortunately.

If it's something you'd want to see I can record my body positioning. I'm not awesome or anything, but I do coach/mentor friends at the track.

I lock into my s1000rr perfectly, but the 1199 required a Ducabike rear set:

Look at the peg adjustment - high and forward, so you can lock your knees PAST the aluminum side panel, and actually on the tank. Add Stompgrips and lock in.

I would also look at the Light Tech.

Thanks, that was what I was wondering. I got the Rizoma's after riding the stock for a bit and just didn't like them. But, they have very little adjustment and I wish they were higher and more towards the rear. I'm torn a little between how much I should just adjust to the bike vs make the bike fit me. How tall are you?

6' 0" tall

Try rotating your hips into the turn. This forces you to lock the outside leg into the tank.

My Lightech rearsets helped as well.

Bronch, I was thinking about this on my ride today and was practicing rear brake control. If you want to stop pogoing, a little rear brake will mechanically inhibit this. Try it on, I promise...

I had an 1198 before my Pani and I think I went from the best track ergos to the worst ever! I'm a coach/school instructor and on my 1198 and even my r6 I regular tip in and ride with one or no hands on the bars to show how we can lock in on the bikes and be light on the bars. The Pani before stompgrip literally had me falling off. The seat is one of the biggest culprits, so I will be rebuilding it to get rid of the downhill slope and the slippery surface. I'm 6 ft even, and 220 lbs.
After turn in, my knee locks in but also my outside arm is under the ridge on the tank. I believe it was in the design. If you get your knee all the way to that ridge you're dragging helmet! As far as during braking, look directly in front of your knee and you'll see a crescent shaped fairing piece. Buy a piece of stompgrip and cut it to size. Under braking your knee will dig in. That being said, don't be afraid to load the bars under braking. If you truly are pushing the limits, ALL the weight is on the front wheel anyway. I teach to "get your work done" and to already be back off the tank, one cheek off and knee out as soon as you start braking. If you try to hold on with you knees then you will not be off the tank enough at tip in to keep your body (shoulders) square and will be crossed up. Once you are done trailing, you will already be locked in, and can get super light on the bars in the middle where it matters. Hope this makes sense?

BRONC are you talking about the back part of the tank thats closest to you where you sit and would put the stomp grips or are you talking about the front part of the tank where there seems to be grooves for your knees?

bronch, get the tech spec tank grip, they have a separate piece that fits onthe fairing. Unless you're really longe legged you'll have a tough time getting into the tank cutouts. The tech spec placement gives you more grip lower down the tank and upper fairing.

Just curious if anyone else has this issue, for track purposes. Wasn't sure where to post this, since I don't race and I guess it's a tech question. I'm having a hell of a time getting my knee into the tank cut out. I'm literally on my tip toe to get my knee close to it and can't ride that way. With a little calf flex, my knee hits the subframe, which is manageable, but not optimal for me. For those of you that can, how tall are you, what are your rear sets and what seat are you using. (I'm 5'11, Rizoma RRC and stock seat))

I mean the tank cut outs where you're technically supposed to put your knees. Right now I almost can reach after adjusting my rearsets and changing back to the race seat. I'm still a little in between, but much better than before.

I have techspec kit for the 1199, both fairing and tank. But, I prefer to have my knees up into the tank cut out. It's better now, I just have to adapt.

Thanks guys...

The race seat makes much more of a difference in moving your knees up to the tank. I had the exact same issue as you (same height) and the race seat fixed it. Add stomp grips and you're good to go!

I'm 5'10 and feel I'm too short to lock into the tank where it is meant to be. Does anybody have pictures or diagram exactly where Ducati have envisioned our knees to lock into tank. It seems it changes slightly for me each ride. Coming from a CBR600 and Yamaha R6 I never was in doubt on those bikes. Thanks.
