Can you elaborate? Are you implying the 899 is a horrible deal, or are you saying it will get boring after 2000 miles?

I'm coming off a ninja 300 and I completely understand that the 1199 is a huge jump. Hell, even the 899 is a giant leap from a 300. I wasn't considering the 1199 at first but I want to get something that I will hold on to for several years. I don't want to get an 899 if it means I will want to upgrade to an 1199 in a couple summers.

I truly believe as long as I am respectful and mindful of staying in my limits that I could control an 1199. Riding in rain mode at first would help too.

kinda sounds like where i was a few years ago. i wanted an 848 for the longest and when i was ready to make the jump, i went with the 1199 instead. looking back i see i would be very sad had i purchased the 848 instead of the 1199 even though i can't even begin to ride the 1199 to it's fullest. 959 looks like a great compromise.

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago.
Came from a CBR600RR and could choose between a 1199 959 and 899

The 959 got immediately sorted out because of this horrendous exhaust design. Underbelly design was a must!

Drove the 899 and 1199 and I must say the 899 is friendlier and easier to drive at slow speeds.

The 1199 handles exactly the same but with way more power. Driving slower than 20 mph is gruesome and only possible with using the clutch.
Anything over is perfectly fine and to my astonishment the 1199 is really friendly if you're level headed.

Bought the 1199S, kept it in wet mode for a week and since then using sport mode.

Huge differences between the modes in term of power but still a friendly driver in sport mode. Just don't use race mode at the beginning. Had me almost falling of the bike [emoji28]

Try to test drive both of them and let your guts decide [emoji56]

I'd go for the 1199. Just put it in wet mode and you have your 899 [emoji23]

Race mode didn't almost make you fall off the bike, your right wrist did that. Let's not blame the innocent race mode.

If it isn't raining, there is no reason to have it in wet mode. The power isn't uncontrollable, even for someone coming from a 300.

Go for the 1199, avoid the diet ducats's, otherwise you will have to live with that nagging un comfortable feeling of having settled for less, and no matter what all the other settle for lesser's say, less is NOT more. BIGGER IS BETTER.

You are right :) let's blame my wrist [emoji23] the bike is absolutely controllable as long as you can control your wrist [emoji106]

Agreed but I would never do a base 1199.

If your going full beast mode, get all the suspension upgrades, those stock base shocks sucked azz

#2 shouldnt even be a consideration with the other 2 in there. This is a tough call for you though, coming off a 300 you will be damn happy with anything over 600. Dont worry so much about long term because you cant really know for sure until you actually spend some time on it. Ive heard of guys getting rid of their super sports within months because it was just too aggressive. I thought for sure everyone would be saying 1199(since its the 1199 section) so its good to see theres common sense in here lol Ask this same question in the 959 or 899 and ill bet you they would say 959 or 899 for sure lol

You know how i know you're bullshitting about the respect thing? i said the same thing when i got my first bike and i crashed it trying to wheelie within 2 months of riding lol The 1199 does have rain mode which tames it down huge so thats a bonus. The matte white on the 959 is pure sex though so im glad it dont have to make this choice lol

Welp, I was all set on taking the consensus advice and went to look at the 959. Everything looked good and I was about to talk about payment, until the seller mentions he has a loan through ducati financial. I told him I don't mind coming back for the bike, but I don't want to come back a third time and wait for a title. So there goes that.

I extended my search distance and found a white 2014 899 for $9500. I am scheduled to see it and hopefully buy it memorial day morning, but your comment is kind of holding me back. Is the 899 really that bad?

The bike has 3000miles. First service done by ducati.

I never rode an 899 so I can't comment on how bad it might be, but the 959 has a slipper clutch that's amazing - and it's newer with more power

It just has more beans, engines a bit quieter and a better exhaust (if your in a market where the underslung exhaust is offered). Your right about the slipper it's a good feature and on track does make a difference.

But I think most people would be happy with an 899, I am :)
