Afternoon,

Apologies for it not being Ducati related, however. Yesterday was spent at the epicness that is snetterton, thrashing the arse of the trumpet. I have never had wear like this on a tyre ever. There was no suspension guru there yesterday which did not help. Granted I have been getting faster and faster as of late. Been nudging 2:19-2-25 depending on treaffic. I was a 2:50 last year!

Tyre is a supercorsa SP. no tyre warmers. I run the first lap easy then speed up. Air temp was 19 deg C, cold pressure was 28 psi. Hot was 35. Psi. This seemed ok but was still wearing like this. As the air temp rose 22-25 ish and I was getting faster the wear was getting worse. I dropped the hot temp down to 30 psi and was still no different. Any ideas? Is it pressure related, suspension or both. I do realise my arse needs to lose a few pounds though! Apologies for multiple pics as I cant seem to up load multiple ones.

Cheers

Subd. My sp tires look identical after the last td. I do know my ohlins spring was too stiff and it was a wet day starting out so I wasn't keeping tons of heat in them.

You are going to get a ton of varying answers. These types of things are really best dealt with working with the trackside suspension/tire vendors. It's a shame there wasn't one available.

Just from what I have seen, that could be too much pressure, too little pressure, wrong spring or simply you are whacking the throttle open to late when the bike is no longer on the edge of the tire. Most likely, a little bit of all of the above and more.

Looks like cold tire tear. Happens when the carcass doesn't build heat as fast as the compound layer. Solution is either: use a harder compound (which you did), run warmers to get a good heat soak, try and let the tires heat more slowly or play with suspension settings, pressures etc.

Looks like classic cold tear, pressure was too high. We normally baseline the SuperCorsa SP's at around 24psi cold if not running warmers, or 27psi after 45 minutes on the warmers. Also when not running warmers, and track temp not too hot, they're really sensitive to getting a good warm-up before loading them hard on corner exits, 1 "warm up" lap is not nearly enough. That's the kind of thing you have to try to catch early before the tear gets too deep, otherwise it will really never get a lot better even if you get the pressures down, since the damage has already been done and created rough surface that will continue to wear abnormally. Personally I've found with the Pirelli rears, a little too low pressure is way easier to manage that too high, so I always skew lower if I'm on the fence and if I start getting evidence of hot tearing (big balls of rubber on the edge, a pronounced smearing of rubber lines radiating inward) then start adding air 1psi at a time until it looks like the wear is no longer progressing. Also adjust during the day if the track temp changes significantly from morning to afternoon, add a little more air if it starts to look like it's hot tearing again. I've found that to be the best way to get life from the tires at track days, if you get a nasty cold tear that tire will never really clean back up again in my experience.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was edging to the side of a cold tear. It seems I'd better do another lap or two before giving it some whilst letting mire air out. I genuinely can't believe I have got to the stage where I need to run the rear so low! What hot temp roughly would people suggest as a ball park. 28-29 psi?
