Hyped and ready to test drive the new 1299, I took a step back and enquired on insurance expecting to be able to just pay the difference on change of vehicle from my 796, current insurance underwriter wouldn't entertain it, so I'd have to cancel my insurance 10 months in and take out new insurance on 1299, decided it was worth it and then came the downer only company that would quote wanted £7500. Thought it may be due to only have 3 years ncb on the 796 so tried with the 9 years ncb I have on my Vespa same thing and only sd&p. I Live out I. Essex with a locked garage on a private road.

Begs the question how the heck do you guys get insurance??

Cheers

Just insure it for £19950 value ;)
Any policy over £20k goes into high value bracket insurance etc.

Chillo is right, as soon as the value reaches £20k, that's it. For the sake of a few quid that's not a bad idea, no different to upping your excess really. But I have the R and couldn't afford the risk of undervaluing the bike by that much just to get an insurance cert!

I got my insurance through Ducati also and they were really helpful. Instead of quoting and saying that's that, they went out of their way and told me everything I had to do to get a reasonable figure. So basically I now have a Road Angel Bike Trac installed. I was then quoted £800 ish for a 36 year old, 7 years ncb with a speeding endorsement on there too.

Try giving entirecover a call. They are a brokers and are really helpful. I'm paying about 600. Fully comp full no claims on a 1299s. Took them a few days going backwards and forwards with underwriters but great service, great price and easy to talk to.
It's actually illegal to under insure from what I've been told. And as the 1299 is new you can't reduce value as its at new market value rrp.

thanks fellas, Ducati quoted £1600 and they wouldn't entertain lowering the price so I spoke to wickedquotes they were cool with £19950 (thnx Chillo) and are actually the same group as Ducati insurance, they quoted me £800, same as you matt the re. pre req. being a tracker alarm. So looks like its on!

test rode the standard 1299 today loved it! was scared the thing would throw me off after reading some reviews and forums, but around town in sport mode it was great. waiting for the dealer to get the 1299s back on demo fleet then if the rear suspension cans don't bug me that much (short legs, I'm just under 5.4") then I'm in the club
