Upgrade Slipper Clutch?

Hey guys,

Looking to purchase some upgrades for the '15 1299s. I want to do a clear clutch cover but am debating on installing the EVR slipper and upgrading from OEM while I have it apart. I will hit the track a few times a year (maybe more once I move next year) but primarily some aggressive street/canyon riding. I understand it helps with wheel chatter, easier on the engine etc. My question is, is it worth spending the extra ~$1k to upgrade the clutch given my situation? With 6,200 miles on the bike, will it help with longevity etc? Done a ton of research on it and just not much out there on upgrading... curious to hear everybody's thoughts on this.

Thanks a lot,

Chris

Hey Chris, welcome aboard m8

yup pop that EVR CTS in there and get a ducabike or CNC racing clear clutch cover and slider

maybe get that oversuspension damper too

I think it’s just the driving experience improvement that makes the evr upgrade worth it vs longevity but I’m sure someone can correct me on that

Hey Kev. Thanks for the response man. That's helpful. Are these tedious to adjust or what does that process look like? I'm not well-versed around clutch adjustment in that regard but have read/heard that there could be more to upgrade or that it can be a process. I don't need to get that dialed in at this point haha. Thanks.

Hey man I’m no expert but I have a torque wrench and don’t care if I get it apart and have to have an embarrassing tow to the official Duc service center with my bike in pieces

I’ve had the clutch out a few times and it’s tedious to get it all back in and buttoned up but it’s definitely within your means if you can do an oil change and have a torque wrench cause the bolts will strip with not much force

might be worth getting a quote from your local dealer for parts plus labor and see how you want to proceed but otherwise you could be fine with that clutch for 15 or 30,000 miles. It’s heavy duty but idk if your aggressively slipping it to launch hard a lot maybe it is time to upgrade. Youll be able to tell if it’s wearing out when you pull it apart

Do you really want a clear clutch cover while tracking the bike? I think if you are a serious track junkie and like to compete in the top class, go for it. If not, I’m not sure how much benefit you will get out of an upgraded slipper.

glass cover = bike botox. It serves no practical purpose and add another level of vulnerability to a track bike.
no point upgrading unless you just want to spend money. If that's the case go for ultimate street and racer cred and get the dry clutch conversion

Agree...for track, clear cover is just another added liability. If going for clutch upgrade, go dry clutch, and it also adds the Ducati factor...sounds pretty cool too.

15S comes with std wet clutch so a good rider would be a lot quicker with a properly set up slipper : )

*key words - good rider & properly set up

If you have not mastered the technique of backing it into turns, something you probably should not be doing on the street, you do not need an updated slipper clutch.

Ask yourself, how many times have you slipped the clutch, and actually needed the rear wheel to spin at a slower rate than the front so you could slide the rear around, so you could point the bike to the apex for a faster corner exit?

If your doing that then yea, get the best slipper you can get.

Completely unnecessary. If you’re building something and starting from scratch and have to buy a clutch, then an aftermarket clutch a good choice. The stock clutch works fine for just about anyone. Additionally, the aftermarket clutch at least in the case of the EVR has a significantly harder lever pull. Something you may not appreciate if you do much stop and go riding.

What percentage of the people that have a slipper have actually spent the time and money to tune it?

Having a slipper and not tuning would be like having adjustable suspension and never adjusting it

How do you tune a slipper dumpster? Please tell the entire world how do that one.

How the clutch is adjusted depends on which one you have Chicky

First you would need to understand how yours functions

And depending on which one you have be prepared to purchase $1500 worth of springs

Yeah see you were able to clear that all up Dumpster Donna. The avatar pretty much sums it all up thats for sure.

Omg I just realized that you weren’t suggesting that I don’t know how to tune a clutch...

But that you are one of the guys that bought one, bolted it in under your clear cover, and just left it there for the world to see it in all its glory

Yeah I was reminding everyone that you don't have a clue how this stuff works most of us already knew that Donna. This is 2021 man not 1990 so probably need to stay off that weed n meth and get up to speed on everything.
