Hi all

First time poster, long time rider, hopefully about to be a first time V4 owner.

I am looking to get a Panigale V4, specifically for track use. As in, I will use this bike for track days only and nothing else. No road riding at all.

With regard to the V4 R, does anybody know whether Ducati is likely to go down the path of having a track-only model a la Aprilia? Or will the R just be another road-going model that track riders will have to strip down and build up themselves?

My thinking is that if it is the former, I will wait for the R. If it is the latter, I may as well buy the S a year sooner and build it how I want it for the track.

Thanks in advance, guys.

It'll probably be the latter, If you plan on club racing then you definitely want an R because it will most likely be within regulation spec (1000cc). Now if you're just doing trackdays, I don't see what is stopping you from getting an S.

Thanks wilkson and SixShock.

Wilkson, what makes you say that? Not arguing, just looking to be educated.

You will end up with a better track bike for about the same amount or cheaper and end up with a spare set of wheels for wet weather set up .
Swap out the wheels do what ever suspension work you like that suits you they really are the only differences between the two .

wilkson gives a good and sound advice.

Me being a retard, I will wait to see what Ducati will do with R model. Sometimes, Ducati do something crazy and not what people predicts...hopefully in a good way. lol.

Odds are the V4R will be amazing. Can't go wrong with that as a track only bike.

That said, if you take a base as Wilkson suggests and build it up you can have an incredible track bike that most here wouldn't be able to max out 100% on the track and still undercut the cost of the R by a good margin.

I'm getting an S because I'm doing mixed street and track, and so far there have been nothing but good things said about the new Ohlins EC 2.0 system.

Do you live in Philippines? If so, where do you track? traffics are horrible in Manila.

Been there many many times and loved it.

Yes, traffic truly is terrible here. Summer is setting in these days so it's super hot on top of all that.

We have two good tracks, one somewhat close to where I live. That would be Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). The other is a bit further but nice to ride up there in good weather, Clark International Speedway (CIS).

The engine is what makes the R (on the twins at any rate). For what you would pay someone to do it I can't see it making any sense trying to build a base model into something close to the R. If you could do the engine work yourself it would make sense but no-one is going to have any experience of doing it reliably.

If the choice was between an S and a base model converted for track then it starts to make a little sense since you might not want all the active suspension and so on for a track bike.

I don't believe I said try and make a R bike ? I said if you want a track bike start with a base .
