V4 Track Bike "build"

Thanks for sharing the project with us, I for one am looking forward to following it :)

Are you basing the engine build on the 998cc engine or the 1103cc one?

Sorry I missed the point where you are building from scratch vs starting with a ducati frame and swapping it out for this to get better track performance. My bling comment was if it does not increase performance for a race bike then it is meaningless to do it. However, if having to buy pieces and this is significantly cheaper, the performance increase or loss may be irrelevant.

Also, yes, tube frames are used extensively in racing. The issue isnt the medium, it whether the engineering has been done to increase performance vs other pieces (like the factory one). Again, may not be an issue if cost is the concern.

If you don’t fab the frame yourself isn’t it really just an adult LEGO kit? Lol

Levity aside the engineer in me wants to see the data around the frame vs a stocker otherwise I’m in the camp that this is bling especially with those ugly ass welds.

A blind man could do better I’m sure. Those are probably porous as all get out.

ArcticWhite, it's all good man my wife informed me early this morning that I was being a dick, in general.Guilty as charged. Cheme85, LOL ill be happy if the motor actually fits in it and again if you want to buy me a new frame from Ducati then I will throw in the towel and not use it. Engineering data is not relevant here. Im a weekend warrior with a project that needs to be built and i need a frame to do so. Im not a WSBK rider that is looking for a better platform that Ducati makes. You have pitted this as an aftermarket frame vs Ducati. Its not that at all. The stock Ducati frame is not in contention due to cost and due to the fact that I fall down a lot. Pretty simple do side by side engineering specs are meaningless to me. The motor is a kit of sorts and is based on the 998 numbers. It's not anything anyone is going to want to see. It's just a track bike meant to be ridden crashed and thrown in the back of the truck to be repaired. From the bikes I have had the privilege of riding, I prefer the 99s over the V4. In not that good of a rider and the 99 is way more than enough bike for me and i like the way it rides vs the 4. I really have no intention of shifting development to the 4. It's just not for me. Currently on my 1299, all the rider aids are set to off with the exception of the QS. I just don't like any of that stuff I just like to ride a basic bike. Well a basic 80K bike LOL. I hate electronics, not that i have the skillsets to appreciate them anyhow.

I fall down because I don't listen to good advice and don't take the time to learn why I fell the last time. Its just little .... but I hate wrecking the equipment so its junk for the track. Well junk with SBK parts but there leftovers

It’s a cheaper alternative then to an actual duc frame? Color me surprised. I figured this thing would be very cost prohibitive vs finding and repairing a stock one off a trashed bike.

I’d still want to see a heads up comparison vs a stock frame to see if it helps or not. Lap time etc. If it makes the same faster or slower will really determine if it’s actually bling or go fast IMO.

Like I said for me, I’m never going to be able to tell the difference. You could make that frame out of wood and I wouldn’t figure it out and as long as the bike made it around the track I’d be happy. I’m building a bike for a competition with a rider that knows what he is doing, completely different animal so “bling” is not applicable here in any sense of the word at least not in my application. This frame is available and supported and it’s inexpensive.
