It’s just conjecture, but yeah it would be reasonable to expect a scale that was built 15 years ago and never calibrated to be off by 10% of the total weight

It’s also entirely possible that the scale used was perfectly accurate. The point that I am trying to make is that you can not trust the scale unless you verify it’s accuracy. A 10% error wouldn’t even be what I would consider to be a bad error.

Well, I'd like to get a confirmation on the weight. $27K reasons why it matters (IMO).

No offense meant to the op if this turns out to be legit, just doing due diligence here.

Ducati are the masters of marketing and have always botched figures to make the new better than the old.

I own a 2015 R that was 205 bhp when I bought it, even stated in the brochure. The 1299 R FE is released and miraculously they changed their method of measurement so that my bike was the lesser machine when compared on a power to weight basis. Although even now it is only very marginal that the FE comes out on top.

So what did you expect with the V4? When the V4 was unveiled Ducati published about 3/4 different power claims in 3 different units of measurement so good luck with ever getting a real comparison as I'm sure the weight is the same guesswork.

Ducati also used to have a previous models archive so you could go and run a comparison. When they changed measurement methods they even went back through and revised the older generation bikes lowering them. Oddly enough this archive is no longer available at all, or at least I can no longer access it.

This is just like the book "1984". The main character worked in the "Ministry of truth". His job was to re write historical archives so that it matched whatever the government was claiming at the time.

the same thing that British historians have been doing for the last 400 years. :RE:RE

This says more about modern consumers than anything else. Its nothing but a .... waving contest.

Bragging rights down the pub :D

My point was more about the numbers, their accuracy and the fact they don't mean much. Also a lot of spec's often read *claimed etc.

But what annoyed me was that bhp was a major selling point for the bike, written in the brochure, up in lights, paid top dollar and two years later it's like "Nah mate, that's not actually what we sold you".

I just picked up a 2019 V4 Base. 100% stock.
440lbs with mostly full tank.

measured on a actuate 1000lbs warehouse scale.

my 2015 BMW S1000RR with a few lighter pieces was 450lbs on the same scale.

I must say that I am little bit disappointed, because weight was an important issue to choose between S1000RR vs V4. They both have pros and cons but I wanted -10kg.

Also I am disappointed about Scramblers weight, because I wanted lighter bike to my wife...

Lol how much do you weigh?

V4 weight --- EDIT: ~204kg ceritfied weighing

I got my V4 yesterday, 100% stock and it weigths 211kg with full tank.

So lets say that it weights 209kg with 90% of fuel --- it is +11kg heavier than in Tech Data!!!

After finding this out I did measure my BMW NineT, Ducati Scrambler Italian Independent, KTM E-XC --- and of course, Scrambler had overweigth +9kg. BMW and KTM were as promised.

EDIT:
I made two other measurements (license plate dismounted, full tank):
1) Measurement by metrology company with certificate - 203kg +-2kg (because they had only scales for 2000kg which have big +-)
2) Measurement by SW500 vehicle scale (0.1% accuracy on load) - 204.5kg

Also interesting fact is that in COC weight is 200kg (not 198 like in User manual).
So finally those numbers are much better :)

Great data point -- thanks.

I'd love for someone to weigh their totally stock V2. I should have done mine, and it's too late now, as it's about to be a race bike. I had been using 440 lbs. as the wet starting weight, but doing the math, subtracting take-off OEM parts with [mostly] known weights, the expected final weight seems low (386.3 lbs.). Which means that the starting wet weight of 440 lbs. is probably too low.

What were your results in weighing it?

My ‘21 V4SP weighs 408lbs/185k full tank ready to ride with lots of titanium, aluminum, & carbon.

My ‘11 1198SP weighs 397lbs/180k full tank ready to ride also with lots of titanium, aluminum, & carbon.

Weighed mine today, with a full tank 395 pounds. Not bad with the crash protection stuff and the extended swingarm and higher Volume H20 radiator.
