V4R Saves the Day! 2022 PV4 First Failure....

That track is quite a dynamic little spot. Hills & dales. That was fun to watch.
Also interesting to see the V2 / V4 fight. You really see where each has its best when you're a close skill level to the other guy.
The R. I've got to try one now.

Did you leave the cooling duct thing on?

and did you get the upgrade done on your ecu? better?

Yep, well I fitted the Ducati duct for the pre 22 bikes (different lower fairings), so it had plenty of air flow.

Yep, got the EVO upgrade. Marginal improvement to TC. But, the stock TC is too invasive, so any improvement is welcome. Whereas before, the tc was a hindrance, now it's just annoying that you can't have more control. But, I guess it's 'only' £500 or so. Calibration kit on my gen3 BMW was 2.5k? Not sure what the next step up is, although, I suspect it's about £8k

Coming back down the hill view behind me ..

I just watched your YouTube video about the two different sensors. There was an older Novotechnik from 2018-2019 and a Hirschmann from 2019-2020 on the R, and 2020 on the V4/V4S. 2021+ is a Novotechnik with a different p/n than the older one. There's a difference with the plug, which you found out about, and where the magnet is placed on the selector drum.

I wonder if there a solution with either Novotechnik or Hirschmann which is a higher grade part which would work without dicking with the selector drum.

Hmm, that's interesting about the magnet. I was going to replace the connector on the 22 wiring loom, to allow fitment of the Hirschmann unit. Maybe I'll make an adapter instead, verify it works first.

Adapter for sure.

From what I've been able to find, the sensor is rated for 125 C (257 F) which seems low for where its mounted.

I wonder if any race team which run this platform would be willing to share any solutions they've used,

Frankly, given that the sensor shuts down almost everything electronic on the bike when it fails, it’s utterly ....... ABSURD that Ducati has a mission critical part that fails frequently and reliably when it overheats, on a bike known for running hot.

It actually pisses me off a bit.

I mean why are we all scrambling to find a solution for such a known and mission critical problem on the bike that can actually effect safety and normal operation….instead of Ducati doing so???

We’ll see I guess if the new part that’s supposed to be more heat tolerant holds up.

But then if the part is failing on the 2022 bikes what up with that?

Are they putting a known inferior part on the bike hoping it won’t fail then you can replace it with a higher temp rated sensor if it does?

....... ridicules

55244421A on the 2021 and 2022 is the "high temp" one.

What annoys me is that they are $246 here, but 140-180 from the other side of the Atlantic.

Pic hijacked from one of Craig's posts from 2021.
