Water leak help needed from SL owners Please

Sorry for the naïve question, but is this area visible with the fairing on? If so, there is a 1299SL in the showroom at my local dealer, and I can try to grab a pic for you.

Yes the weep hole is on the left hand side under the thermostat housing assembly, if you look at the drawing in the OP it will give you an idea of where to look.

I would be most greatfull if you could do this.
 
Ok small update for those who are concerned with the water leak issue?

As the tech document said that I posted earlier the SL version is the only Panigale to come fitted with a pipe to purge the exhausted coolant out and away? I have not had any positive feedback from SL owners who can confirm if the water pipe is fitted or not so have no evidence that substantiates this.

Today I received from Ducati the fitting that will screw into the weep hole (we need to tap a thread into the hole to accept this part) before installing it.
Funny thing is that the part in the sealed bag says M6 MAP sensor pipe fitting? so has Ducati conjured up a quick fix??

Had I known I would have simply machined this up myself, the problem with this rather "heath Robinson" fix is that one is then unaware that the bike is leaking coolant? and one could in fact run out or run hot on a long out ride if a rider /owner is not checking coolant periodically.

So if the V4 suffers this problem as they have admitted is also normal on some bikes then I am unsure if I will be having one.

Sorry, just caught this. I took a look but was unable to grab a pic at the time. There is a small black rubber hose that extends from a fitting. I'll try to grab a clear photo when I have the fairing off next time.

edit: I see above that you got the part you needed. Looks like it will be the same as that on the SL.

If you look up on this thread I have placed a pic of the MAP sensor pipe fitting they supplied with a 6mm thread, the idea is we tap a thread into the round weep hole and screw this in, then place a rubber pipe over it to direct coolant.

I have not done the mod yet, preferring to rather see how much coolant Im losing and in some way gauge when I need to add coolant?? I will add that since I have had a new water pump fitted I am now not leaking coolant from the weep hole, but it comes from the pipe fitting on the thermostat housing as the bike cools.

If you wish to install a part as shown and described I would urge you to get a 6-8 inch tap wrench extension this will make cutting the thread quite an easy task.
 
I cant but wonder with the factory telling us the weep (seep) is normal and to be expected on the V4 as well.....does this mean that all Ducati owners who do not suffer a leak in fact have faulty bikes? after all the dealer is telling me with authority that this leak is a design initiative to assist in cooling & lubricating the pump seal and bearing:confused::mad::mad::mad::mad:
 
Thanx for your reply, Captain Greg. Mine is leaking a small amount for a while now. I report the leaking by my dealer under waranty. But they say ist normal. We all know!

They haven't putt a new waterpump in, but for the winter changed the thermostat housing. We will see what that brings......

Will consult my dealer about your MAP sensor pipe fitting. I have now put a little bit of cloth in the way of the coolant stream. So the the coolant will not run over te fairings.

With your MAP sensor pipe fitting and a tube you can still collect the coolant maybe in a camera roll holder or something... So you can check the amount of leaking and the coolant will not screw up the fairings.
 
On my irrigation pumps, they have a teflon gland (seal), they are designed to be tightened up until there is a drip per second. These are old school, now they use ceramic seals preloaded with springs.

the difference is the irrigation pump is not turning at high RPM constantly running high temperatures...

But Im smiling that we are comparing a high tech racing superbike with a simple irrigation system. ..... so all the bikes that are not leaking coolant must faulty and the owners should take them into dealers for a repair :mad:
 
My 899 dribbles a bit here and there. Planning on doing the magnesium clutch side in a few months and am going to pull the water pump and seal and see if one of my suppliers through work can source a viton seal. Not sure what the compound of the factory seal is does anyone know for sure?
