Weight reduction

I’m not really one of those people who are obsessed with the weight of the bike but due to some recent work on the bike it got me thinking about it a bit, not from the perspective of how light can I make it but more of the what’s the best bang for the buck.

Obviously there are the relatively free mods: remove exhaust servo motor, remove evaporative canister and of course diet and exercise. What else am I missing?

Then there are the best bang for the buck mods: lithium ion battery. Tires

Finally there are the ones you can spend silly money on to shave grams.

So what are your best bang for buck weight reduction mods?

I enjoy taking weight off my bike. It's my recreation. I have "wasted" a lot of money though over the years. I have the full six street tail. Magnesium wheels, more titanium bolts than the space shuttle. It is good fun. I thought the full Ti Akra was good value. Better sound, performance, light and looks good too. BTW I have a Shorai battery now for 6 years nearly and only ever used a "Junior Battery Fighter" charger on it as recommended by the Australian distributor. About $50 on fleabay. It came with my bike back in 2012. I bought a second one to trickle my Powers Sports SSB lithium I purchased for my K1300S. It is a cheaper brand but works just as well as Shorai. I think is a bit too expensive, you pay a premium for the name. I keep a log and diary of all my weight saving and will add it all up one day. I have yet to fit the full six tail which I had painted to look OEM.

Bit of trivia. Years ago I purchased a CNC Racing Ti front axle bolt and then found that the OEM allow one is actually lighter. So the OEM stayed on the bike. I did save a few grams though with swapping over the OEM 1199 Superleggera radiator cap. It is Ti and saves a few grams over the OEM 1199S one. I do not race but is fun to pay around with the bike.

Yeah, I found out that the CNC Racing Ti flange is actually heavier than OEM as well. Wish I would've known that before dropping $900.

Unless your Dovi or Petrucci stop In-N-Out burgers and get a Peloton like they show on TV. You'll lose 10kg and be lean and mean and ride like the wind!!

I am trying to lose a bit of weight at the moment but it has nothing to do with motorcycles. My blood sugar is too high so it is about stopping the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Getting older sucks. Have already lost 4 kgs in a couple of weeks and its all been for free. Not a bit of carbon or Ti in sight. LOL.
