Wow.... that escalated.
So having ridden the bike so more it is an amazing machine. My first panigale was a '12 base and that was an awesome machine, second was the 1299S, again, that was a phenomenal bike, I had a hard time parting with it. As everyone said, it won't make you faster, whether I ride a base, S or R the bike isn't my limiting factor. As many have said we are all lucky to have these amazing bikes. The R was something I've lusted after. I see it as a piece of exotica that makes you feel special, they all do that but it's probably more of a mental thing. So let's all agree we are lucky and have badass bikes

It did run off a little!!

Bottom line, congratulations, fantastic machine.

What you have is a truly unique machine that will give you an experience like no other............. watch the oil

And report back after you've done the running in...... tell me that sound isn't mental when you nail the throttle and the earth moves backwards!!

hey guys new to the forum. Haven't been riding in a while just sold my GTR and said let me see what's new with Ducati, now I always loved Ducati since I could remember. I will be 39yrs in two weeks I have a 2002 748s battery dead from sitting so anyway I go into the bike dealer up the street from me and look @ the Ducati's still saying I still am happy with my 02 but they are nice. Then in the corner I see 2015 R now it is true I like the craftsmanship of things and things most don't see or have so not like I will track or anything neither did I with 748's . So the salesmen I knew since I was like 22yrs old ask him could is see it he pulls the bike out I sit on it. why did I do that, I was looking forward to a extra $1300 a month since selling the GTR. So I say well let me see what they say about getting approved with Ducati 30min later he calls me back and says 5yrs 0% and the bike is like $34k but since its a left over 15 we are selling it for 30k. Man I know this doesn't happen everyday with the discount but wonder if 30k is worth it now last time I got my 748s it was 13k. Is it really that rare he was telling me they got two all year. I will ride it for sure but really I just want it for the craftsmen ship the work that's put into it I would just feel lucky to ride off with it. all this said is this deal good? Do you R owners look back and say I could of got a fully loaded Honda accord or is it so worth it once you ride this beast guess I'm asking any buyers remorse out there?

Get the R. BTW, why did you sell the GTR?

Says SL/ tri man Thanks Gecko, yes 2016..
Maybe we can meet some trackdays this summer? Any booking yet?

Would be very cool. Was in Almeria in January. I guess Dijon with Ducati4U is an option, but no real/other plans. I'm still new to the track community and don't really know about other event organizers in Switzerland.

But I've already realized is that you "Romands" always have good mood, white wine and fondue at the pit box. How great is that!!! :)

well in a year my lease on it was coming up and I had like 5k mile when I was allowed 24 so since I had the chance I sold it to make just about $1500 or was going have to drive the crap out of it so I won't give them a car for them to make more money on

O and by the way, what are you guys using or recommend for eliminator on the R model?

Congrats! I'm using the evotech tidy tail.

I grabbed my 14R for under $20k. It was hard to look at a 1299S at that point even though the electronics offer more. Add in the package Termi full system and it was a no brainer. 2700 miles on her. In the end I bought it for the photos. My R will spend half her life at the race track and when I'm in the twilight of my days and looking back through albums I'll say grandpa got a chance to own/ride one of Ducati's most purpose built race bikes on the planet!

An update finally with dine decent weather I've actaully gotten to ride. I had the Akra slip on installed this past weekend and wow, it woke the bike up. The engine is extremely smooth and revs fast, the 1299 was stupid fast, but this thing is just different. I had the heat sheilds removed since I hate the way they look and the progrip 717 handlebar grips installed also. Very happy with the bike, I didn't see how I could be happier than with my 1299S but this bike is an absolute beast, I love it.

Hard to believe the two bike sound so much different with the exact same DP exhaust. I was surprised to say the least. The 1299 had a much deeper sound to it. Hard to believe that is down to just the cc difference. Maybe the air filter had some effect as well. Dont the R's come with a different air filter than the S? Either way both great bikes!

I agree with Chaotic though. No way many of us could run faster laps on the R vs the S. Maybe back in my prime I could, on say a large track like Atlanta or the old back straight of Pocono I could possible do a faster lap, but who knows. LOL. I do know that I really like both bikes.

I'm not fast enough for it to matter really lol. Always wanted the R, the 1299 did everything I needed it to perfectly

i have my first outing on mine this weekend so my time will mostly be spent on setup.

I'll be interested to see if i notice a big change between my 13' 1199R and this R.

From what i'm hearing it should be night and day but i'm a little sceptical.

I'll report back next week.

Right so i had my first trip out on the 2015 R last weekend at Jennings GP coming from a 2013 R i was interested to see what if i would notice any real differences between the bikes, for what it's worth i had a rabid bike, full akra and MWR filter on my 2013 R.

So straight out of the box the bike felt very good the down QS is insanely good and free's up so much time when prepping for corner entry I also noticed the bike handled great with turn in being very sharp and the bike just felt a little bit more settled. This was probably because i was not riding the pace i usually do due to taking it easier on the motor for the first 200 miles so i was short shifting but it certainly felt a little easier to ride than my 2013.

Day 2 and oil and filter changed and ready to rip, for those of you who have not been to jennings it's a tight technical track and really suited to a 600 so the 1199 is alot of bike around the track. The motor on this bike is an animal and spins up faster than the 2013 but on this track it's hard to really appreciate that top end grunt.

I spent some time on setup as the bike came with a very hard set up so it was hard to get some feel from the front end and rear due to this. I softened things up a bit and adj the rebound and compression and things got a little better but there is still more to do here.

So in short the new R is definitely an upgrade from the previous model, the motor is a beast and the QS is insane, I personally prefer the new suspension but it takes time to set up and make no mistake this bike is a full on race bike and unless you are really on it the bike does not really make sense it just wants to be pushed and then it really starts to come together.

Whether it's worth the upgrade is subjective my friend brought his 2013R that is well set up so we would swap bikes every so often to compare, after the first day he called the dealer to see how much it would cost to switch which is high praise for the current model.

I don't think my lap times got any better but it was the first track day of the season and i didn't look at lap times and was more focused on dialing the bike in.

So far i'm happy and for what you get this bike is a very good deal but it's a full on race bike and like i said earlier unless you are really pressing the bike does not make sense.

I'll be able to give a more comprehensive review after a few more track days.

Cheers

It would be interesting if you can get your friend to do the 24 rake kit and -4mm swing arm. Then ride the two back to back. Ok maybe get him to do the p08 air filter too. haha :p
