WET mode MPG question...

Torque is the question. At 120hp top speed would be affected, in my opinion, but I wonder what the torque will be. BTW 41 MPG on wet mode, mixed riding! So it barely puts the Panigale in the economy range.

Unless you're a huge person making a lot of wind resistance, top speed won't be affected because gearing hasn't changed. My 126hp Daytona has zero problems reaching 160mph and I'm sure it would go far past if it had the gearing.

So with current gearing, you are saying that 190mph is achievable in comparable conditions as when set to 190+hp setting? Would it take the same amount of time, if not how much more time and distance?

I'm saying whatever speed is achievable with full power is definitely achievable in 120hp mode. It's not nearly enough of a power drop to cause the bike to struggle against the wind, and if power is not an issue it is strictly gearing that determines top speed.

Edit: Obviously it would take a bit longer, but I have no doubt it would max out the gearing eventually. I have no idea exactly how long it would take or how much more distance.

I disagree. Wind resistance limits top speed. Have you ever head the saying "you need 200 hp to reach 200 MPH"? Why is it that 600's top out at around 160, and 1000's top out around 180? Even though they are near the same size, the extra HP makes all the difference.

If anything yes, it is wind resistance that limits top speed. I'm simply saying that based on my experience with my 600 and the fact that it easily breaks the 160mph barrier and the only thing holding it back is gearing (i.e. acceleration never seems to slow down up to that point) I would tend to believe that you could top out the gearing on the Pani in 120hp mode, whatever that speed actually is. I've personally never tried it. Maybe someone on here should get out on a track with a long straight and give 'er a try.

And no, I've never heard those sayings, seems to me from an engineering standpoint it wouldn't make much sense since wind resistance is based on the shape of the bike/vehicle and that can vary quite a bit. Anyways, it's just a saying. Hopefully someone can go give this a try and let us know.

randomized double-blind study

Quick question, would I yield better mpg when taking long trips on the Pani utilizing WET mode? Would it be so minor that I wouldn't really matter?

Thanks in advance!

So I did a randomized, double-blind study, with power of 80 and p value < 0.05, and found this...:D

Okay, okay, maybe not that scientific, but I was curious about MPG in wet mode, so I did a few trials myself and found...

~2 MPG difference

It has a Wet mode???? ;)

Yes strangely enough, it does.

You will find reference to it in your owners manual.
It's great for riding in the wet with these tyres, which in my opinion are quite greasy in the wet.

The best part about the wet mode is that throttle actuation is dampened, and that helps to smooth things out when riding around town.

To the OP.
I'm not certain about fuel economy yet, but I'm trying to determine if economy is better. At the moment It's inconclusive even though I thought it should be better myself.
Actually sometimes I get the impression that economy is worse in wet mode:eek:

:

But I have Q3's....so no such worries...:D

If you go same speed you will burn the same fuel. No magic there. It's unlikely to burn more efficiently.

mb5 mode

I like wet mode, less jerky if I use it to get to work and it runs pretty good still at the top end.

It's like having three bikes in one.

now they just need an MB5 mode for the girls.... just kidd'n

there are some girls out there who can spank my butt..... :)

I never could understand why people still can't except the modes. The bike will be still powerful! People talking about they only ride in race mode is silly.
All the technologies is there for you to use them , when it's rains and it's very cold or when you have black ice why not use the wet mode? What do you want 200 hp on the back wheel on black ice or wet and muddy roads?
For fun stuff you can use the race mode and for sport riding or two up you can use the sport mode. I don't understand why people think they don't need them. Still goes the same with the Abs , there still some people think they can brake bettering safer then abs!

Technology is good for you ! Why so technology-fobic , it 2015! Cornering abs ,traction control, wheele control, modes all there to help you !

I used wet mode the other week for the first time. It was dry but the roads were very tight with not great visibility so as we were only nursing them along avoiding potholes, muck on the road from farmers etc etc I though what's the point of any angry 195hi.
Wet made much more sense.

I tried wet mode yesterday for the first time since the day I got the bike. I was in fairly heavy but moving traffic @ 22 mph to 28 mph on urban-ish streets. I found it much less fatiguing than the sport or race modes. Very nice for when you have to go slow.
