I've had my S for all of two weeks and now it won't start. I did literally nothing. Started it in the garage, rolled it down the driveway to let a passenger on, turned it off. Tried to start it, and now it just cranks and pumps, nothing else. Tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit, removed the charcoal canister, all with no luck. guess it's getting towed tomorrow...

Many owners including we me have had the starter die without symptoms. There's a good chance that is what it may be.

that's pretty irritating. the bike is brand new, doesn't even have 100 miles on it.

Ah, another great bit of Ducati 1199 "quality."
Best of luck with your bike man. More than likely something simple like a loose wire or something. More than likely one of the guineas building your bike in Borgo forgot to tighten a bolt lol.
Even after removing my charcoal canister three days ago my bike (R) was still having hard start issue when both hot and cold. Unreal.

Yeah, hoping the deal gets this turned around quickly. I'm missing out on all the reasonable riding days left this season.

Check your side stand ? There is a little magnet on the inside of it make sure it is still there .

If its falling off, just use some Krazy Glue and duct tape.

....Thats about all Ducati puts these together with :D
Ok, a bit of hyperbole

I thought if the side stand was causing the issue then it wouldnt crank/pump at all?

Side stand will light up on the dash and won't let it be in gear.

Many of these have had failed starters. Do you hear it crank/turn over?
Hardly a pile just because it won't start.

Good dealers will make your life better, it's under warranty.

It does pump, doesn't sound like the crank turns though, only once maybe. perhaps a failed started, as the side stand light is not on.

I say pile because the bike is brand new. brand. new. I don't think a 20k+ bike should fail a week in.

Mine failed when I was at the Gap, just a few weeks old. Push start it and see if it runs. Prefer to push downhill. My dealer treats me great and yes the bike has had a few problems. Shouldn't be a deal breaker.

just annoying, honestly. we'll see how the dealer responds when i call tomorrow.

My good fellow, when we as men take upon this great notion of being Ducati owners, it is needless to say, there comes with it an code of honor— unreliability and unpredictability.
But, there also lies a darker beauty within the cloaked problems and misgivings that these bikes have to offer. There is life... not to many bikes will make you as frustrated but also make you reach heights of pleasure and gratification, that you and the bike, man and machine, become one....

I wonder how many are out that have no problems. I don't have a Pani YET but bought a Diavel one year and 10 k miles ago. I had read about a lot of complaints that have not been a problem. In the time I have had it I had it over heat once on a very cold day. I think the thermostat frose shut. Stopped for less than a minet and all was fine. Thermostat replaced under waranty.

Other problem was a failed combination start kill and ignition switch. I coud still operate using an alternate ignition switch until switch replaced under waranty. Other wise not a single complaint. I can't say I have had a better experience with any vehicle. My daughter recently just had her new car limon-ed. Anything can have issues except for my wife. She's perfect!!!

Don't want to ginx it, but no issues with my White Base, (no carbon canister factory for us here to bitch about hard starts) yes, none what so ever, not even a loose bolt. Possibly the pre delivery check was done accurately and professionally with loctite, the other guys here no reported major issues, one a battery fault (flat as a pancake and unable to charge), replaced battery no issues. I think many of our 1199 brothers (and sisters) are far to precious (or been spoilt) over a few minor issues and rant to who ever will listen, or point blame at everyone apart from themselves, no new vehicle is perfect and bullet proof, have numerous mates that ride all types and yes they have issues that frustrate them too like a minor oil leak or burning oil when new (.... most new cars do this also), I say get off you soapbox and start riding!!!!

carl your only problem is that it is a white one. I would rather have the failed starter. at least you can just replace that.

You have to paint your whole bike :D
