What new super bike excites you?

Aside from the 1299SL what new super bike excites you?
The Honda SP2 looks like a solid bike, has all the proper pieces and Honda knows how to build an awesome machine.

The GSXR1000R? I used to have a GSXR 750 and absolutely loved that bike, is this the return of the gixxer?

Of the two I'm more drawn to the SP2, not quite sure why but I really want to ride that bike. Overall I'm glad to see the other manufacturers bringing new metal to the crowd, it forces the R&D to kick out better bikes for us ultimately.

From the factories? Nothing. From some of the custom builders, there should be some nice alternatives this year. The exception to that would be something from the race shop however unless your a fan of Aprilia, your options there are limited. All the new liter/+ bikes are great bikes and with the exception of fairly experienced riders, more than a handful. The next step is a short or long walk down the modification trail. I will continue to buy next evolution motors and chassis pieces but I will never buy a complete off the shelf bike. I cant count the number of garages I have seen with piles of "take off parts" from modded OTC bikes. Hopefully there will be more custom "superbike" type builders to bridge that gap between OTC and the buyer having to attempt an extensive modification project that for many is just not an option for whatever reason. It would even be cool to have some sort of builder assistance type thing where the guy buying an OTC bike who wants to do some extensive mods could go and get some hands on assistance similar to the way the kitplane market works. Builder assistance programs are a great asset for someone wishing to have something custom but lacks the resources to to go it alone. Sorry for the rant.

I was interested in SP2 and closely looked into it but it disappoints me... many reviews by experts basically say below.


2017 Honda CBR1000RR
+ Highs
Much improved engine power
Light and nimble chassis
All the ingredients for a real contender

– Sighs
Draconian wheelie control
Annoying ABS/rear lift control
The ingredients are there, but the recipe isn’t perfect

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Coming into this First Ride review of the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR I had really high hopes. The premise of the CBR we know and love, now rid of the power deficit it had before, was drool-worthy. Add some IMU-based electronics and the might of Honda developing it, and it was sure to please. The reality was that, while certain areas of the CBR are much better than before, its electronics aren’t at the same level as the rest of the motorcycle.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to ditch either of my bikes for a new bike. I'm perfectly happy with what I've got and if my plan works out I'll add the next gen R to the stable when it drops...

Now, I've just watched some reviews and I agree, I really wanted the SP2 to be awesome. But it seems like Honda waited to long to get into the electronics and they don't have the refinement and tuning the others do. It is kind of a disappointment, the SP2 had all the right ingredients, and the Honda engineers have the knowledge. I was told the SP2 was set up for the HRC race kit already and you could easily order it and install it, I figured that would set that bike up for instant success.

Honda says it has more power but LESS power than others.

Honda says it lost weight but still heavier than Panigale.

You cant compare your stat to your OLD Bike only!. . You have to compare to your competitors.

I also really hoped that Honda bring something awesome that is not $180,000....

I am kinda interested in the New possible BMW HP4. I probably end up getting new V4 R. lol

Obviously you guys are lovers of real exotic super bikes. Me I'm really head over heals with this 959 I have, lightweight wheels a titanium exhaust system and a few other light bits gets me to a real special track day bike.

I do really like your choices and views on a couple of really special things but for me the Pani is a really sharp toy. Not the fastest but a very good execution of style and grace.

I'm guilty of the high end allure however, after some bird knocked my 2015 R over, costing in excess of £6200 for repairs at her expense, I'm very reluctant to take it on the track. I'm not sure I want to shell out that much if I drop it myself.

Keeping the R as well as an 899 or 959 as a dedicated track bike would be awesome in an ideal world........ I do miss my old 848 though

Mine is going 90% track this year. Ducati track plastics and a second hand tank for under a grand. I know a lot more parts could get battered, but I did over a dozen trackdays last year with little more than removing the plate and taping up the lights. This year I am a little better prepared for catastrophy

Like some of you, I was very interested in the SP2 Honda.. I knew it would not be at the top level for power, but the weight reduction and electronics, not to mention handling should be good..

I really am quite pleased with my 1199S still, and with the rapidbike racing unit installed and hopefully resolving my fueling, I think I will be fine with it and my 675R for another 2 years.

Looking into Harleys. They upped their game with technology and new motor is solid. I live in NYC and riding around, and even parking isn't what it used to be. NGetting YET another sportbike doesn't appeal to me anymore. I thought about the new Honda and Suzuki as well as updates from Aprilia and Kawasaki, but there is nothing earth shattering. I have fun with my 1299S at track days and still harass people with my 12-year old ZX10R and other old bikes. The sportbike scene is dry now. Manufacturers only care about liter bikes and everything else doesn't matter. BUSA and Zx14 have been the same for almost a decade. No new 600's.....well...Yamaha put R1 bodywork on the same old R6. YEP. .....Touring or adventure bike for me.

Stepping away from Ducati I like the Norton Dominator/Dominator SS. It's not always about pure power and speed. But I'd really love a Sutter MMX for a trackday bike.

Sp2 is headed to race teams only. Unless it ends up like the R7 did, where they have a glut of them left after a couple years, Honda has already made it known they won't be really available to the public for a while. Same goes with the exotic kit parts. The SP and lower tier HRC parts (ECU etc) will be available to everyone else. But if it's like previous versions of HRC stuff, it will be really proprietary and hard to figure out. I had a fully HRC kitted 1000rr at one point and it was a nightmare getting anything done to it. Not to mention the cables to connect it to your computer were almost as much as the rest of the system.
