I recall getting gas on one of my motorcycle trips, and as I'm fueling up in my full leathers, I heard the cager next to me comment about how ridiculous my gear looks and I must be stupid for wearing it in 100+ degree weather. I wanted to respond "well please stop trying to kill me on the streets and all this gear would not be necessary" argh!

What is the dumbest thing anyone has said about your gear or bike? Tell us the story, give details!

Ridiculous Comments

The old Quote "you can't fix stupid" comes to mind when people make comments like that Duc. The U.S. is Ducati's biggest market and with increased sales, people are going to see more of us. Maybe that person rides another brand and is jealous. So far I haven't had any bad comments spoken to me directly, however I've had some "looks" if you know what I mean.

I cant say that I have had any legitimately negative comments about the Diavel.

Ive had a few people say that I paid too much but a simple explaination about value clears that up.

Dumbest thing asked about my bike? Mmmmmm. I was once asked if I got my carbon dash cover from a GROUP BUY?

Dumbest thing I heard from someone is "I was to bought an Ducati, but changed my mind when I saw that it's just 2 cilinders, instead of 4... and that's why I bought my Honda Hornet".

That one was really a pain...

Just yesterday had a co-worker ask, "Ducati is Italian right? But are they made in, like, China?"

Well that's not too stupid, they do make them in Thailand, but they are for the Asian market only to get around massive import taxes.

Love and trespass

Nothing but praise and occasionally astonishment that a two-up Duc exists. Or did...
But this happened: I was returning to the bike from a restaurant just north of the North Rim of Grand Canyon NP, and spotted a Japanese tourist ASTRIDE MY STRADA! He saw my approach, and with his photographer buds returned to his van. I came to their window all friendly like, and they were SO excited to have seen such a machine (and sat on it!). We spoke different languages so our intercourse was limited to shared moto-love, but I got such a kick out of their innocent enthusiasm I didn't mind a bit the trespass.

I had a young girl at work tell me I look like a foot ball player in my jacket and helmet. She is a cutie. I wanted tackle her right there!

The perennial stupid comment is, whenever I am heard talking about "my bikes", "Do you ride a Harley?"

My answer is always, "No, because I am not old enough yet to want to ride so slowly, and I don't know how to dress like a pirate."

Here in Italy the Diavel caused a ruckus, when it came out, both between Ducatisti and between bikers in general. It was hard for them to understand what it was, and what its purpose was. Which has to do with the silliest thing I've been told about it:
"E' un cancello! Non piega! Con quel gommone sta in piedi senza cavalletto!!!"
("It's a gate!" (we use "gate" to mean something huge, ugly and heavy) - "It will never (bend? fold? get inclined in curves, that's what I mean)" - "With that rear tyre, it will stand also without sidestand!").

Well, I went on some mountain passes with other bikers, and I also had a passenger. When the others arrived on the top, I was already having my beer. LOL!

Lolo same happened here in Portugal :)

And sometimes some people confuse the diavel with bat mans motorcycle Lolo ;) but I will tell you more later :)

I used to go out in a group for an early Sunday morning blap ,my mates all on Japanese sports bikes , I was the only Duke 999 at the time, they used to always say " here comes the ditch pump" hrrrrrrr.

New Cromo owner

Owned several Ducatis previously. Lusted over the Diavel since its introduction. Found this 2013 Cromo (see attached photo) with only 1200 miles and brought it home. It now shares space with a '99 900SS and an '01 748R. Happy to add another Duck to the collection.
