Which exhaust?

Which exhaust do you plan on putting on your 1199?

I realize that Termignoni have an exclusive deal therefore they were able to get an exhaust out ahead of the competition which might impact many people's decision.

Regardless though, which exhaust do you think is superior and why? Termi, Akrapovic, LeoVince, etc etc?

I'm newer to this higher end biking community (former track car guy) and it just seems like in the Termi thread there are so many other people saying Akrapovic would be a great competition once they get their system out as it's a full Ti system and costs similar to the Termi which isn't full Ti

Akra makes a good product and I like what they came up with for the XX98 bikes especially the quality.
I love the sound my termis make on the S4RS and 1098S :D

both akra and Termi make good products . Ducati and termi are synonymous and offer integrated hardware and software . Akra quality is probably better but may struggle when setting up fuelling .

I've got my Termi system on order, just received notification from my dealer they are shipping out April 14th. Then the headers of to Jet-Hot to get ceramic coated before they go on the bike.

I have already received my Termis Slip-on for my 1199 , and they are surprisingly heavy ??

Must have something to do with maintaining the weight so it can race. With all the crazy weight restrictions it makes sense that Ducati made it so they could carry the weight down low.

Maybe , or they hid Cat converter in them ; I don't know but it surely the heaviest slip-on I've ever held .

Had arkropovic on my r1 and it was great. I loved them. Had yoshi on my cbr and now I think I'm going to go with the termis. Not fussed about power increase. Just want the thing to look and sound bad ass.

Just wanted to get a little insight:eek:. I am new to the L-twin/ Duc Platform:D(stepping off my S1000RR:cool:). Did Termi go with the full Stainless Steel system to keep cost down, or does SS have better flow characteristics than Ti (or some other advantage that I am unaware of)? Is it worth dropping $4,000usd on the Termi system to get, at most 5% power upgrade, or is it really about getting a better sound:confused:?

Would love to know exactly that as well MOTODOC, well said !

Here's an insight though comparing the 2 materials of Stainless Steel vs Titanium 7,480-8,000 vs 4,500 grams/cu.meter

Taking the average weight of SS which is 7,740 you get that Titanium is 72% lighter per cubic meter

Yield strength of SS is 520MPa vs Ti 940 or 81% stronger with an Ultimate strength of SS 860MPa vs Ti 1040MPa = 21% stronger

For those worried about under the seat heat...Titanium is also better resistant.

Flow characteristics have nothing to do with the metal (ok, maybe in a lab, but not in the real world). SS is cheaper and welding SS is cheaper (and easier) than welding Ti. Termi can charge the same/more as any other exhaust maker because a large proportion of Ducati guys will simply not ever consider anything other than Termignoni. If you don't believe me, check out some threads where someone puts a yoshi pipe on their 1098! Most of the haters all scream Termi.

That the Termis for the 1199 are heavy isn't surprising, as they kind of have a monopoly in this segment (at least for Ducatiatsi mindshare) and when competition is eliminated there's just not much of an incentive to produce the absolute best it can be. Companies like Austin Racing and Akra (or DD) absolutely HAVE to do something better, cheaper, lighter or throatier (or all of the above). After six months we should see a lot of options and it really can't hurt too much to wait and see.

And they had to add 6kg to Checa's 1198 for WSBK. I'm sure Ducati worked with Termignoni when designing the exhaust. Why spend the extra time and money to shave too much weight when you're just going to have to add more? They didn't design the exhaust for the consumer, we just get to pay for the R&D that they had to put into it. They get an exhaust system for their WSBK contender and we get to foot the bill. It's ok, I'm good with giving my support!

Thanks AntiHero and bwaide. This puts it into perspective for me. I remember putting a full Ti Arata system on my ZX-12r and RWHP went from 165 to 186 with a custom Map, PC III USB, and a BMC race filter:D. I waited to see which pipe gave the most bang for the buck. Eventhough Muzzy was the culturally acceptable pipe for Kawi, for real power gains it came down to the Akro and the Arata. I went with the Arata b/c it was cheaper than the Akro and had higher power gains. But, I knew that I offended true ZX-12r/ Kawi cult followers b/c I didn't go with the Muzzy. The Muzzy power gains were maybe 8-10 HP with less weight savings. With the Arata, there was a net removal of weight~33 lbs (the aluminum cast header and the gigantic stock endpipe weighed ~40lbs:eek:, the Arata full Ti system weighed 7 lbs:cool:. Total cost: $1,089 for the pipes, $325 for the PC III USB, $50 BMC race, $250 for the custom map, $175 for the install. Total: $1889 (with tax included). Well worth it. I do remember that the motor harmonics vibrated like hell through the grips:( (solved with a set of Harris gel grips and Throttlemeisters:D).
