Which exhaust?

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I have owned a akrapovic 3/4 system(carbon fiber cans/titanium slip on and akra titanium Y pipe) on my previous bike 09 R1 and i can tell you this compared to the 1199 termis i held in my hand i have no doubt that the akras are better.

Build quality is superior by a lot. Welds on the akra are flawless wheres in the termis the welds are ok. Needs improvement. It looks as if the termis where half assed built(Am not kidding) once you hold one and compare to the other you will be able to tell.

Weight. Yes the akras i had where carbon fiber/titanium, but even comparing my stock R1 cans to the termis slip on they where incredible lighter(I only holded one side termi slip on and i could feel a huge difference).

Power. I would expect more power from the akras, however with the proper tuning. As someone has said already the map that comes for the termis are fuels maps based on average, which isnt necessarily the best for the bike. Example i live in Florida very humidity, hot all year long, low altitude, etc. wheres lets say Joe lives in Italy(where termis come from and are made) mid-high altitude, weather changes a lot throughout the year avg, etc. The fuel map that comes from termis might be better for Joe since he lives in Italy, where the map was created compared to me where it would hurt me. So as you can see regardless of where you live your bike should be tuned for you(always). Its like suspension you dont ride someones else setup you ride yours whats best for you.

*FYI the new termis doesnt come with an ECU, instead you get a USB that uploads a map to your bike. Which i think its great all we need to do is have one hacked and upload a map to it and play around with it, like sharing it on the forum to see which you think its better.

Check out this link. http://www.austinracing.info//mall/infopageviewer.cfm/AustinRacing/PANIGALEFEATURE Even austin racing claims the termis are heavy.

Am not saying am buying the akras but am definately going to shop around considering all the things i have said performance, quality, and weight. I hope this explains everything and has helped a lot of you.

I considered waiting for the Austin Racing or the Akrapovic system; however, in the end I'd rather have the Termi system because they are plug and play with the ECU and fuelling all ready set up from the dealer. (simple)
I did the same thing with my speed triple in 2008, and opted for the Arrow system.
I suppose it's the easy solution.

AR Exhaust requires PCV. I like the plug n play of the Termis, but from how it appears it's not worth $2k.

i have had termis and akra on many bikes but just to throw one in here had arrow titanium and carbon system on my 848 and boy did they sing also just a update to the map at yhe stealers happy days, i have ordered termis for my pani however will be waiting to see what arrow bring out

Modifying stock muffler

Has anyone thought of going cheaper by modifying stock mufflers to improve flow and sound? I has casoli do this for me on my MV Augusta a few years ago.

Yeah i had a baffle kit on my R1 before and in terms of bang for your buck that's definitely the way to go and you also see all the way down the pipe. Not as good as akropovic (which i later got on another bike) but definitely for the money it was fantastic.

Give it time. I bet someone Like Huston Superbikes will have "copies" of the "key up map" for sale soon.. If you go with someone like Akrapovic, with similar exhaust characteristics, the map will be close enough..

What does "Key up Map" mean?

Does it mean a different physical ignition key with a unique authentication code (via the existing immo set-up) to "trigger" the engine management software to chose the Termi system map which already existed or included in the stock ECU during production?

I think if you really want to have the weight reduction, then the aftermarket (Austin Racing, Akra) will be the way to go... providing you have decent access to a dyno operator that can develop a map for the pipe and your bike.
I live several hours from a dealer and even more from any such a service provider and so it would be a major hassle to go with something other than the Termi system. Plug and play with the Termi setup is just so much easier.
I may change my mind in the future; but for now, I am having the full system installed when I pick up the bike, keeping the stock system brand new and put away for whatever reason.

I originally ordered the Termignoni slip-on with the bike but cancelled it. I don't think there's anything wrong with it but I want to wait for better options.

The ECU will be cracked soon enough so we'll be able to freely tune our bikes at will.

Akrapovic is my first choice for craftsmanship and I hope they come up with something soon. I'd love to see something from FMF also. Zard will be sure to give us something very light, we can count on that.

So since I have never owned a Ducati, and this key up nonsense is mind boggling...all I want to know is can i use a bazzaz Z-Fi kit for fueling? If so it makes it easier for me to wait and buy non termi pipes and save a couple grand...

I have the Arrow full system with the low boy exhaust on my speed triple at the min, quality bit of kit. Id buy it purely for the sound it makes alone!

Guys if you can wait it will be worth it. The research we are doing has some surprising results which will affect your exhaust decisions.
We have something on the way that looks and sounds the biz with a good weight reduction and will allow you to retain that all important valve to get you through track days.

Keep you posted, will be looking at a few months.

Sounds great, will you be shipping to Australia?

I found on my Streetfighter that the Akrapovic pipes worked a treat with Tuneboy ECU custom tune. Two of my mates also have Sterrtighters;

One has akrapovic with PC - there is hesitation in power delivery up to 4k rpm.
The other guy has termis - larger amount of hesitation with the replacement ECU.

I'm not saying that termis or akrapovic pipes are better than the other. The ECU tune is what is most important. I am confident to advise that my Streetfighter literally rides around my two mates on the race track and I'm more than 15kg heavier.

BTW the replacement ECU that comes with the termis is no different than the standard with the exception of a reflash. Consider a POS till its flashed with a proper map that suits the engine and pipe.

tune boy tunes from bottom to top of the rev range. PC only tunes from 5200 on up, and the DP ECU runs closed loop so the fueling is the same as stock - too lean.

Your superior fueling has absolutely nothing to do with your Akro exhaust system.

Our tracks don't have sound restrictions and I don't need or want to retain the valve. Do you have an option for me too?
How are you tuning?
