Brand new Panigale V4S with side stand problem. The bike will shut off as soon as you put it in gear. Bike does not recognize side stand in folded position. The wiring for the side stand sensor is wrongly routed and therefore you will have a wiring issue.

First picture shows the wrongly routed wiring and the second picture shows the correct routing on a other bike.

Not just a duc thing. Why I try not to get any first gen bike from anyone. Especially since I have no dealer support here. Probably an easy fix if you are close to a dealer though.
 
the title of the video says "first recall." is this an actual recall or is this something that needs to be fixed. not sure about in other countries, i know it varies by country, but here in america our vehicle recalls are based on safety. while this certainly qualifies, i'd like to know if this is an official recall or not (i.e. did you get some kind of official notification). because maybe this isn't the first recall, maybe there aren't yet any recalls; everything is not a recall else the bike would have hundreds of them (although on the panigale there were a dozen or so irrc). just trying to keep our collective ducati image tight and accurate. ;)
 
If it’s broken internally rerouting appears to fix but it’s not, there is no reason for the cable to fail regardless of routing.

Let’s face it, first year models normally have recalls.
If you’re ok with having your bike spannered possibly more than average then go for a launch model motorcycle .
Obviously the op was not ready for this.

Some like myself fight the urge to buy launch year models for this very reason.

And fwiw, Ducati isn’t any worse than other brands. Actually, this V4 seems pretty trouble free so far.
 
Not sure what you mean we will have this problem. That bike has 3 total miles, so it's barely even made it off the lot. I imagine this issue occurred during shipping or the like, perhaps it became disconnected and someone tried reconnecting it incorrectly. I'm 1000 miles in on my base V4 and haven't had any issues with the kickstand.
 
Routeing of the cable should make zero difference to the functionality of the side stand switch. Have you checked that the tiny magnet on the side stand itself is still present or that there is nothing blocking it when in the up/retracted position, such that the switch senses it. The side stand warning works using magnetic induction and the magnet embedded in the side stand itself needs proximity to the switch for the ecu to recognize the stand is up and therefore remove the start inhibition. If the cable itself it internally compromised or damaged, you could route it anywhere you like but the failure will still be present. Either that or the switch itself has failed. Takes about 5 mins after removal of the fairing to replace it. Not exactly a difficult job. Two allen bolts and a tie-wrap (zip tie) to release the switch and it's own short loom from the support bracket and unplug the connector at the other end where it joins the LH main wiring loom. I have seen cases where the spring on the side stand was at fault and did not allow the side stand to retract fully so the magnet was not close enough to the switch to "close" the circuit. You can also try pulling the side stand up when retracted and see if the warning light flickers on the instrument panel. If it does then chances are there is a misalignment issue.

The routing of the cable is the problem. Not every bike has this problem. As you can see on the second picture in my first post the routing is correct and there is a heating protection. Mine has no heating protection and the routing is wrong.

As you can see in these pictures one of three cables was broken off.
The concessioner said it will most likely be an recall soon for this problem.

I have soldered back the cable and attached a magnet on the sensor and rerouted it for now temporarily.

I hope the Duc is a little easier to work on then my Tuono? The Aprilia has too many plastic button fasteners. I hate those damn things (just to save weight). I still own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. This was the first year release, 181,000 miles still runs great. Just some perspective.
 
Well, if no one bought the 1st generation then there won't be a 2nd generation. Perhaps the mfr needs to do a more thorough job of development but it's hard to anticipate every thing that can go wrong. Murphy's law is forever and everywhere. Even God didn't get it right.
 
Gotta tell ya', when I see guys write things like "it's a Ducati" or "it's normal for it to have problems" (I'm paraphrasing), it really chaps my ....
I have owned many Ducati's and have never experienced the "expected breakdowns" so frequently spoken of by our own self deprecating Ducatisti.
I've owne(d): ST2. 996, 996s, 1098s, Mutistrada Pikes Peak, Hyperstrada, 1299s, 959.

Each one of them performed and has been flawless, with the exception of the Brembo recall on my 1299s, which was a multi manufacturer issue, not just a Duc issue.
Love your bike and expect it to perform well. Take pride in your Italian ride.
 
I don’t think that a broken wire in a sidestand switch is reason to avoid buying a first model year. Yes it’s an annoyance, but hardly a major issue.

Especially when the kickstand switch eliminator from the 1299 apparently works on the V4 as well. Sure, you'd have to pay more mind to the position of the kickstand so you don't take off with it down, but it's an inexpensive fix.

yeah have to agree.

Have a look at our similarities ST4s - 996sps - 749s - 1098 - 1200 Multi - 1100s Hyper - 899 - 959 - 1199 and also .... all problems bar electrical on the ST, shitting myself over rockers on the 996 and a small fluid leak on the 959.

Pretty good going since they all usually cop a flogging.
