I know this is still a couple of years away but I am interested to see what others think. I personally think that the new superbike will be brought in line with the GP15. Twin spar frame and V4. I hoping for at least the V4. Thoughts?

Hopefully I'll be able to either comment "I hope so" or "I hope not" next week (or whenever) I get mine.

Dang....can the folks enjoy their 1299's before thinkin about what's next in store for Ducati?

Personally, I don't like the look of the frame on the xx98 n 848. Whether it makes for better handling or whatever is totally irrelevant since I'm not able to extract the most out of the 1199 anyway. Looks > function for me. The v4 on the other hand would be interesting.

If Honda made an attainable RCV213/4/5/whatever, I'd be all over that. That V4 is apparently just ridiculous.

Good question, again. It's been asked since the GP bike abandoned the frameless design right after the 1199 debuted. What a marketing fiasco that was for Ducati. They seem to have the chassis finally dialed in the motor making great power in SBK (based on last weekend at Assen), but I agree with you that they'll probably bring it in-line with the current - and foreseeable future - GP design.

Twins have been key to the brand since the 851 Superbike but Yamaha seems to have led the marketing sea-change where now the manufacturer's top production superbike are more closely tied to MotoGP than SBK. Since Dorna owns SBK and the rules have not favored twins for at least the last 4 years, it as good a time as any to finally move to a production V-four for the top-line superbikes.

Personally I don't think so wrt frame. The bike handles well, both on road and track so I'm not convinced Ducati will want to add weight. They seem to have more of a handle now in wsbk as well. I think Ducati would view Moto GP separately given the difference in power, grip, materials etc used in prototype machines.
The V4... I remember when the 1199 was released Bayliss saying the thing he was most proud of was that it had 2 cylinders. Implies that they considered the V4 then, you'd probably expect them to produce something in the future, it moves away from their identity though with twins.

Is Ducati's performance in WSBK this year due to them finally getting the chassis dialed in or the new EVO rules that stripped some of the other bikes of their advantages? Or another way to put it is "Did Ducati finally catch up or was their competition pulled back so Ducati could compete?"
