this is not a troll thread. whats your observations? The panigale just doesnt have the drive the aprilia or the kawi have. i doubt they will have a win this season again.

I know the Ducatista will murder me for this, but I suspect a dual sided swingarm would actually change things more than more power would at this point. Better drive grip, less tire wear etc.

Mark, it did look like the 1199 had some shortcomings on the straight, but every track is not PI. The 1199 should have some advantages on the tighter tracks. Also, I watched the races again last night and I wonder if Davide would have faired better. He was easily the fastest rider all winter. But who knows, his history or crashing may have negated all that. If Ducati wins the 'ship by being the most consistent bike with podiums, I'll take that. Should be a great year. How about BMW though? Always bringing up the rear and no Yamaha R1s. That says a lot.

I definitely think Ducati will win a a couple this year. It's a shame Davide is out, he's definitely been the faster of the factory riders so far. I do think Davies can get on top of the box though, he's won on just about everything he's ridden the past few years, even the BMW:D

Just give them a bit of time, teams are still adjusting a bit with new riders everywhere, and PI is somewhat of a unique course as it's not designed like most of the others they race on are.

Ducati had to make the least amount of changes for the new Evo rules. The new rules are essentially slowing down the other bikes for more competitive racing. The Ducati didn't look down on power, Chaz just isn't a very aggressive rider that takes a lot of crazy risks like Davide. Chaz follows his strategy and it's probably not his strategy to draft pass on the straight at every given opportunity.

I think this year will be the Panigale's best chance for a championship. Yamaha returns to WSBK next year and anyone that thinks they wont be immediate contenders for the championship must not follow racing very well. The '09 x-plane R1 debuted in WSBK with Ben Spies and won the championship.

yeah, ducati is down on power. it's so slow, that it came in 3rd, almost one half second after the 1st. a shame.

i think they should give up and pack up. even if it was faster than last year's dominators. Guintoli and Sykes

Next round will be interesting because it's a brand new track and nobody has raced there before.

Didn't look down to me.

Davies right there the entire race fighting for the win.
Ducati seems to have gotten it sorted out. The wins will come.

If you look at the results charts, the Pani was right in there on top speed. A tiny click down on the Apes maybe, but as good or better than anything else, including the green bikes. The Ape's speed is what got Haslam the win in R2 - that and some fantastic riding, of course; he looks to really be clicking with the RSV4. Big change from last year, for both him and Chaz! From the onboards it looked like Chaz was losing ground on corner exits, so maybe a grip issue or else he needs to ease up on his late braking/entry speed, which looked massive. It did look a little unstable at points, but it also looked like it could turn under anything out there. Enormously better start to the season than last year, in any case.

Cheers to the new regs for sure; the season's got the potential to be one for the ages.

<forgot to mention> Chaz also had the fastest lap overall in R2. Slow, not so much... ;)

I agree.

I suspect the Ducati is still chewing up tires, so practice and qualifying the speeds are going to be fine, but making them last at race pace is going to require them to back off a bit. Davies said he was trying to conserve them in race two and still ended up not quite having the drive grip he wanted by the end of the race, while the others still had some left. PI will show this issue more than any other track on the schedule (outside of crazy hot days), so I suspect they have a reason to be optimistic.

so if davies had no grip at the end and was still going the same pace as the winner and the second, the bike must be superior. ;) turned the thread around in 12 posts :D

Lol, I don't think it's as big an issue as it was in years past honestly. I think Ducati will definitely be on top of the box this year, like I said, PI is going to highlight some things that won't come up at other tracks. It looked like Davies had them covered just about everywhere but the drag down the main straight, and even there he wasn't really "losing", just couldn't gain an edge. If anything, Rea and Haslem just rode better. It seemed like all the manufactures were on fairly equal footing all weekend.

If Chaz can ride like he did at PI, I am pretty sure we will see the 1199's first race win and probably a few more this season.

Man, that was some great racing, a real nailbiter at the end...

Oh and what about the rookies? Terol and Van Der Mark did a great job and will probably give the regulars some fits pretty soon.

Those Youngins are HUNGRY!!!

I just watched the 1st race...

I dont see much of a power deficit at all...down to rider skills in my view..although the 1199 did look like it was a handful at times..I thought I saw a lot of headshake??

ok first i agree with you L that all tracks are different and each bike has a favorable tracks, Not all are PI. I also like Davide and would rather it be him than chaz if i had a choice or have both healthy at a minimum.

Let me clear up what i said and i knew someone would bring up time sheets fastest lap etc. However did you watch the race the people saying this? did you see the drive and power of the ape ? how easily it past the 1199 on the inside. Johnny rae really the kawi made him look like the old 21.

how about race 2 troy with the fastest lap at one point so obviously fastest lap or top speed doesnt mean anything. if im last and put in a fastest lap does it really matter answer NO. anybody know why he went in to change the tires?

PS anybody hear if troy will make another race. wish they showed a little more of him or had an interview or something. if there was an interview can somebody post it

Mark did you not see how determined Haslam and Rea were riding? In race one Haslam slid onto the freaking grass, took a detour, got back on track and immediately threw the bike on its side (dirty slicks and all) and started his charge back to the front. Rea was also riding like a man who would not be denied. Chaz had a great race and stayed with them, but I think a lot of the differences you saw were differences in skill level & aggressiveness. Not shortcomings with the Panigale. Chaz pulled off some awesome downhill passes on the brakes... nice and clean.

good point eleven that was amazing in race one when he went off the track. all the races were entertaining. WSS was great!

so your argument is that ducati has the wrong rider on the platform? management could have got JR he was a free agent from honda.

are you saying that JR would have won on the panigale? or are you saying that down the straights davies didnt have the bike wide open? or are you saying davies gave up because of the "attitude" of the kawi and ape rider?

also JR own honda lead a few laps so what is the explanation for that?
