If you look at the results charts, the Pani was right in there on top speed. A tiny click down on the Apes maybe, but as good or better than anything else, including the green bikes. The Ape's speed is what got Haslam the win in R2 - that and some fantastic riding, of course; he looks to really be clicking with the RSV4. Big change from last year! From the onboards it looked like Chaz was losing ground on corner exits, so maybe a grip issue or else he needs to ease up on his late braking/entry speed, which looked massive. It did look a little unstable at points, but it also looked like it could turn under anything out there. Enormously better start to the season than last year, in any case.
Cheers to the new regs for sure; the season's got the potential to be one for the ages.
so if davies had no grip at the end and was still going the same pace as the winner and the second, the bike must be superior. turned the thread around in 12 posts
If Chaz can ride like he did at PI, I am pretty sure we will see the 1199's first race win and probably a few more this season.
Man, that was some great racing, a real nailbiter at the end...
Oh and what about the rookies? Terol and Van Der Mark did a great job and will probably give the regulars some fits pretty soon.
Mark, it did look like the 1199 had some shortcomings on the straight, but every track is not PI. The 1199 should have some advantages on the tighter tracks. Also, I watched the races again last night and I wonder if Davide would have faired better. He was easily the fastest rider all winter. But who knows, his history or crashing may have negated all that. If Ducati wins the 'ship by being the most consistent bike with podiums, I'll take that. Should be a great year. How about BMW though? Always bringing up the rear and no Yamaha R1s. That says a lot.
I definitely think Ducati will win a a couple this year. It's a shame Davide is out, he's definitely been the faster of the factory riders so far. I do think Davies can get on top of the box though, he's won on just about everything he's ridden the past few years, even the BMW
Just give them a bit of time, teams are still adjusting a bit with new riders everywhere, and PI is somewhat of a unique course as it's not designed like most of the others they race on are.
