wsbk ducati short on power

No. believe it or not more traction will save the tire wear. Less sliding around and less wheel spin. Think of less weight is like doing burn outs with these powerful motors. however you will sacrifice some handling which the panigale has a lot of room to play with.

So the same effect as adding traction bars on a drag car but just adding weight. Got it.

Shaka - Then why not move the electronics to the rear subframe. It may be a few pounds but every pound counts. Or would the extra wires add to much weight to the bike

Just to give you an idea, here is a pic of the tank on last years Kawi WSBK. This isn't just a Ducati issue at all.

Wow, there is zero room to run them. Does the tank on the Pani run up under or into the rear subframe or just under the seat? I can't tell from the pic.

I was reading Marks thread about panigale down on power and i was thinking maybe the ape has a little more power or why Ducati has two big riders on their team? to add more weight to the rear

Silver part running to the tail piece bodywork, between the subframe rails is the back half of the tank.

Here is the MV 675 WSS bike, the factory tank actually goes underneath the seat already, but they are still spacing the riders back quite a bit this year. It's also not as far back as the bigger bikes are. Although this design appears to stab the rider in the nuts.....

3rd place there is excellent for a Ducati. Of course it's down on power! It's a damn Vtwin!

Big open tracks are I4 land. Vtwins and V4's are going to suffer a bit. The Panigale is pushed to near '80's F1 levels just to compete on the street and track. For racing, everyone is pushing their engines hard. No one can ride a twin or triple at the IOMTT, it'll just eat those engines.

The 916/996/998/999 didn't win all those World championships on power. That's more than obvious. They had to push the 916's engine to grenade levels to keep up. So a decent finish on a horsepower track is excellent news for Ducati. It shows they can keep up with a twin there, then they have a good chance at tracks suited to them.

I wish someone would sell an aftermarket tank like that to the public. That would solve the one issue holding me back from getting a Panigale, the ridiculously short range.

I have a Carbon2Race tank and it takes 19.2 litres which helps with the range. The workmanship is beautiful and I had no problems fitting it. :D

Another thing to consider; Chaz Davies is one of the tallest and heaviest riders in WSBK at 6'0" tall and 155-160 lbs; he's a good 40 or 50 lbs heavier than some of the munchkins riding the other bikes and his frame can't tuck in as well, so there's more drag for him.

I'd say the Ducati is right there in terms of top speed.

I haven't read Stoner's book yet, but Chaz & Stoner are talked about in Rossi's book. I thought Chaz & Stoner were really good friends since they both struggled together when they started racing. I guess they aren't friends anymore if Stoner would go on record saying Chaz has no heart.

stoner didnt say anything bad about chaz at all. they are good friends it was my interpretation that the Europeans (not just chaz) didn't try as hard as casey did. they (especially the spaniards) deserved it just because they were European. when they lost they didnt think that this kid from Australia should have won because he wasnt Spanish or European.

You're right. I forgot about that!

Hmmm... I just watched race 1 and didn't see anything that would elude to the Panigale being down on power. Chaz was right there the whole time and he just wasn't as aggressive as Rea and Haslam was riding like a madman. If he was donwn on power then I would have thought Torres would have caught him. Time to watch race 2...

I know the Ducati breaths well with the huge valves, but if I was a Kawa/Honda/Yam engineer, and couldn't make more power with an inline 4, I'd hang myself.

Maybe the rules are limiting the mods the japs can do and the Ducati has a racier engine stock, as usual. Not to mention that there is no way that the Ducati doesn't have a weight advantage.
