Mark they have some ankle protection and support for sure. As for a riding shoe they are great, but obviously no race boot. I find they are practical and meet the intent I have, over the ankle minimal riding boot/shoe that provides a reasonable amount of protection. Here's a review from stg.com. My go to guys, I they have always saves me money and dropped listed prices as well.
