Mark they have some ankle protection and support for sure. As for a riding shoe they are great, but obviously no race boot. I find they are practical and meet the intent I have, over the ankle minimal riding boot/shoe that provides a reasonable amount of protection. Here's a review from stg.com. My go to guys, I they have always saves me money and dropped listed prices as well.

EVO lower radiator cover, 1199 labeled bolts for the fairing, SSR gas tank and red resevoir covers bearing the Ducati shield.

Note to those wanting the EVOtech. It is supposed to be a 5 minute job and would have been.....but once again the poor italian workmanship creates a bigger problem. Did you know that the 2 external bolts thread into studbolts that thread into the lower section of the motor. These studbolts also do not have any surface that a wrench can attach to to hold the in place if they come loose when you try to take out the external bolts. If the italian assembler used too much "white loctite" or whatever that stuff is, the external bolts will actually break free the studbolts and you will have a whole lot of fun getting the bolts out and then put back in. If you are really unlucky, you will strip out the 3mm bolts trying to take them out. I wasn't completely unlucky but it took over 30 minutes and a whole lot of luck to get everything back together again without stripping out the 3mm external bolt.

I got a Dainese Aspide jkt. 2 Duc t-shirts and beanie,Moto Gp dvd and calendar and an Ilmburger carbon hugger which is in the post. Bought the hugger myself but that doesn"t count:D.
