So, I caved in and got the rear cylinder and exhaust loop heat shields installed as i did get small burns on my right thigh last summer on couple of occasions (and yes, i was not wearing shorts, lol ).

There is definite improvement in the heat by the thighs and somewhat to a lesser extent, the heat directed towards the seat. It's been only 60 degrees out in michigan, so engine temp only reached 190s in my 20 minute ride today. I'll report on it again when it's hotter out and i've been on a longer ride.

Overall, the bike's aesthetics are not significantly disturbed by the the changes, at least to me.

Have a look below!

Hey man! Was supposed to have bike in there on Saturday, but it was too cold for my old ass to ride it there. lol Probably take it sometime this week. So, your opinion...I'm thinking of just getting the case covers installed, and leaving the exhaust shield as is. Could you tell yet if that would be of any benefit?

ttkarp,

I wouldn't bother with the case covers as they only make a mild difference.

If you don't have the full system your stuck with the ugly plain plastic version of the heat shield so I assume that's why you're leaving it off.

The new carbon version looks fine in the flesh and works a treat. The metal shield under the carbon with the air gap between the two is what makes it so effective.

The aftermarket vendors on Ebay will eventually get the idea of copying the carbon shield for the non full system soon enough.

Maybe I should get a few made up and see how they sell!

Yes sir! That's exactly why I'm leaving it off. The heat doesn't bother me that much, but I'd rather not have the issue at all like you describe. Maybe I'll upgrade to the full system if it gets to me too much. I agree that the aftermarket will catch up, but if you want to make me one I'm fine with that:D
Thanks for the insight!

I have the Termignoni mufflers only and opted fo the whole kit of heat shields. It's perfect. No more annoying heat around town, i'm happy.

i think you'll definitely notice difference from the case covers if you ride with jeans or leathers, i still have to try out shorts eventually.lol. Exhaust shield is of questionable utility so far but then again it hasn't been hot enough to notice conclusively.

Thx for the feedback. I'm going in for my second service is a few miles. I plan on having them installed then.

no problem, i think you'll like the change.

thanks for the feedback, i hope it'll be the same for me too when it gets hotter during the summer.

Thanks for the photos. The weather is getting warmer here. I had similar problem as you did on my right thighs and am also looking forward to installing them. The parts are back ordered according to my local dealer.

I think they just look Fugly, will stick with the standard one and just ride faster!!

is it completely sealed & doesn't have small vents on the top of the shield to dissipate heat while moving?

There's no perforations on top of the heat shield as far as i could see. I think that'd just make the rider seat heat levels more pronounced.

One interesting point, if the temp is above your body temp (98.6), evaporative cooling is the only help (sweat). And if you are riding a bike, the air flow will porevent that from happening. So any bike could cause burning, depending on what you are wearing (and several do). From the national burn center, to obtain a second degree burn:

113°F 1.7 hours
122°F 2 minutes
131°F 11 seconds
140°F 2 seconds
