if you CAN get your hand on one of the Desmo, do it, because if you change your mind, you can always swap that for a brand new 1199 S (or 2)
its not as easy the other way around!

Ducati became a fashion man. It's not what it used to be. Everyone wants a Panigale now even if they dont really know what Ducati means!

Take something unique and spend some $$ and make it even better!!

You will remember my words when Ducati fans will be watching your D16RR stuned. It is then that you 'll feel awesome when you 'll park you bike next to 2-3 1199's .

You will be unique!! ;)

Both are beautiful beasts but not a fair comparison, tho both would turn heads on the road or track. That would be lie comparing the Ferrari F50 with an F458, both have sex appeal and brute power but the F458 would win with not only simular hp but technology. Same with the Panigale, its already close to 200 bhp with many features that help to cut lap time. I guess it boils down to how big your pockets are ;-)

Well said!
btw F40 is still my all time favorite! Would sell my kidney if that is what it take...
Same thing for the Desmo, the experience it brings you is mind blowing, something that does not come by everyday...

Great analogy, which I fully agree with, apart from it boiling down to cost!

In the UK, for example, you could pickup a Desmo from very close to £30k (private sale, £35k dealer).

Now, a Tric with full system and a few carbon goodies is what .... £27k

At this level of slush, £5-7k is neither here nor there

That's what I'm thinking. One of the reasons why I can't easily let go of the Desmo. I have to decide before summer comes.

I agree. The Desmo sensation is really something. Thanks

No offence to the OP, but this is why posts like this get on my goat.

If it was "1199 v Desmo, Compare and Contrast", then game on, but "Advise me what sort of bike flicks my switch" .... sorry

FWIW, I'm the 458/1199 type guy. Prefer new tech, to old school. Like warranty, versus OMG how much. Need to be the first owner, rather than the second!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sat on one, started it, but alas wasn't permitted to ride

Experience was mind-blowing. I think the smile lasted a week.

This said, the credit-card stayed firmly put in my pocket .....unlike when I strolled into the dealership and essentially purchased a picture of a 1199 :p

Good work. Must have been amazing :)

There have been a few really nice late-production examples floating around the UK market, also one on the little island where I reside, but I just don't trust myself to stay in love with it. The race pipes, with side exit are totally sick BTW.

I will ride one ..... my 1199 will be ample leverage to grab a ride from the owner of the one near me!

that little island tax haven you live in only has a 30 mph speed limit doesn't it :eek:

Hahaha. The Desmo is REALLY SOMETHING, huh? That said, it's really hard to let it go. The 1199 sure is awesome too...

I owned a desmosedici RR that burned up in Bastrop wildfire. It was the most amazing bike ever. Would love the panigale but heart on RR. The cost are high on it but it is what it is. You will be noticed where ever ya go on that bike. Everyone looks at it with the sound that it make even if they are not into bikes. Good luck and happy riding

I guess that's +1 for the Desmo. Thanks!

Both!

Good news!!! God is gracious! I'm gonna purchase both bikes. I thank God for the financial break through. I'm so pumped up!

I looked at a D16RR about a month ago in Wolverhampton Ducati. It was a mighty fine machine and I was drooling! I had also looked a the 1199 at the NEC bike Show in November and thought is was stunning. 2 days after looking at the D16RR it was sold so I decided the week after to go to the MCN bike show at the Excel Centre London and take a closer look at the 1199. Had a chat with a guy who sold me some t-shirts an dother bits. Kept his card after blagging a free key ring and week later ordered a 1199 Tricolore. Moral of the story, a key ring could lead to bigger things ha ha ha. I take delivery end of April start of May and have a 195 mile ride back home. Gutted for the D16RR but not a bad second choice.

I've never riddden a Desmo so I cant really comment.. but to me the answer would be simply... where do I do most of my riding on a day to day basis, so what bike os going to give me the most riding pleasure... you can look at something beautiful all day long and appreciate the style etc etc.. but for me being as average knob who can only afford one bike it comes back to riding pleasure.. if youre on the track all the time you do need a track bike... most of my riding is on the road and I will set up the Panigale to suit that... hi speed road and heaps of twisties.. it costs a little bit more but the return is worth it... carbon fibre rims and a respring or revavle as I can only afford the base model.. around where we are there is only one Desmo and you never see it on the road.. its mainly a collectors item.
But if I could afford both it would be a different story as some one this forumn says whats better than one Duacti but two, one for track, one for road....
and we are all different...diiferent riding styles, different ages, different budgets..
but we are fond of Ducatis... whatever you choose you arent going to loose... v4 or v2
