enter Menu - select Race - select Engine - select Hi - Memorize (turns green) - exit/exit/exit - still in sport ?

-- does being in break-in period have anything to do with it ? - i'm not certain i may have skipped a page in the manual ?

I think setting an R to race mode is kinda redundant, maybe what Ducati was thinking :)

There's no break-in period limitations. I had it in Race and Sport mode yesterday at the track.

Don't go to menu mode... Going into the menu is for changing the specific mode settings. Power, suspension, abs, etc.

To select between Race, Sport, and Wet, press the select button (the one between the turn signal buttons and select the mode you want. To activate that mode, hold for 3~5 seconds. If you have the throttle applied at the time, it will ask to release the throttle and presto!

This is where you select the settings for each mode, not your current mode. As stated above, use the turn signal outside of the menu to select.

you'r confusing me :)

- turn signal button, as in the 'cancel' little grey one ?

Yes. If the turn signal isn't blinking, you push it once and the 3 modes appear. You move it left or right to move up/down the menu, then poush in and hold ofr several seconds to select the one you want.

nice ! - evidently thats what people mean by "on the fly" - first time i hit that button all i could think about was how i was screwing up something :)

-- currently i'm showing sport-orange on instruments - does that mean i have default or custom.....and would simply having a custom display mean it'd be orange ?

-- ok/ok...i'll re-read the manual after you answer that one :)

It's wild too, that as you're riding, you think you need to cancel the signal, and instead, the menu comes up. Ignore it and it goes away in a few seconds.

....yes....that part was simple enough(the ignoring part).....didn't know thats the place to modify on the fly....nice plan...i guess someone already thought about it ? :)

Yea, whenever Japanese bikes try to race me, I quickly shift to Wet so as not to embarass them.

Orange during break in period. Will change to black as will the tach from orange to black after first service.

So how do you like the R so far?

-- i am liking it a lot - it has to be the easiest ducati i have ever broken in, and since thats where i'm at with it right now i can only give you that perspective, given that i try to stay reasonably close to break-in rpm's....however, this motor allows tons more freedom of use early on (compared to older ducs) that i couldn't help loving it immediately - the motor feels "instantly on" even on its sports setting, which has a few air balls for throttle response - original 916's, and those that soon followed, (sedici not included) left me shaking my head with "break-in" rpm's so low (4k) that i actually couldn't stand it (i still bought new ones though, go figure)

-- with my first 25 mile ride home from the dealer, i knew it was going to be a great bike - suspension definitely rock hard out back and a touch too soft up front(way too much dive from simple brake tap) - i got the front managed (for the time being) by tightening up the preload - the rear will wait for me to get sag, at the very least, looked at....if they tell me i'm within proper sag/susp settings overall i'll leave it alone, but something tells me its a bit on the tighter side of reasonable - i've had a few pogo shots off the seat, and i usually know when to expect them....a few were a bit off the charts in normality for street riding - yesterday was its first true day ride, where the rpm's managed to paw upward, but in keeping an eye on that, the overall feeling for me with this motorcycle, is nothing short of greatness....easily, lots and lots of fun is packed into this motorcycle, and i'm no track addict...strictly street riding is all i need....

-- i've had a few mysterious stalls, hic-cups, and one "almost, this close, about to call a trailer" fail to restart, and another, simply keep cranking until you feel the heat of the starter motor thru the heat shield restart..... that left me wondering....given i thought those issues have long since been resolved prior to the sedici....but maybe the lack of those extra 2 cylinders, lighter flywheel, along with ti-rods and shorter stroke and race-evo system conspire against the fueling....can't say for sure......remains to be seen.....

-- i'm eagerly waiting more miles, and being able to use the tach freely, let alone get an understanding of the settings and how to toggle in, out, and around the instrument screen.......SPMF (Smiles Per Miles factor) is mighty high indeed !!
