1199SL track bike project

I once had a $25,000 SV650 race bike. That's way stupider than having a $65,000 Superleggera track bike.

I have a $3000 sv650 race bike and my wife thinks it stupider to have a 19k 1199 street bike ;)

I'd find a way to argue myself into a $65000 track SL
Noooo, better not!

This thread delivers BTW!!!!

Once I replace all the parts and paint it up nobody will ever know it's an SL, the motivation to buy the SL was to get the RS motor and the electronics. It's not about me being elitist, it's about me developing a bike outside of the team. Every year the team builds these bad ass bikes and I never feel worthy enough to ride them. Now I have a bike that is just for me, it's my project, my vision, no rules to adhere to, a full on weapon!

We got the suspension components for the SL from Jon Cornwell today! Going to test it this weekend at Hastings Nebraska! Actually I still cant ride yet with the broken leg so Jake Holden is going to test it for me. I hope he can deal with my MotoGP suspension settings LOL.

Sweet! I got that MWR big ram air kit installed on my 899 today and it was a breeze, so that will be no problem to throw yours on the SL tomorrow too!

OMG there's not going to be enough air for the rest of the bikes once we go by! :) There's a tornado joke in here some where but its just to risky to joke about that in Nebraska.........

Side note, aren't CF wheels banned in WSBK / MotoGP, all I see is Forged Mag' ?

I remember Freddy Spencer CF wheel disintegration, think it was Donington Park
Trans Atlantic Race, oops I'm old, wasn't there but did see him high side on race 2 also at Donington circa 83 84

YES CF wheels are banned in WSBK, CEV, AMA and MotoGP, however they are approved for road use in 95% of the know world now so its only a matter of time. The ban stems from early failures in the 1980's. The next Limited Ducati superbike will have carbon wheels stock.

Not sure who's wheels but Claudio Domenicali said watch this space when asked about carbon wheels two weeks ago.

Well then, I obviously vote for RotoBox RBX2. 1.4 pounds lighter than BSTs, and they could save on shipping because RotoBox is in Slovenia so they can box the wheels up with the Akrapovic systems and save on shipping. :D

We'll see if design trumps absolute performance when Ducati decides.

they haven't figured out how to save /anything/ in shipping. . they air ship everything from italy. Dealers order parts from Ducati, and they ship air to the dealers from Italy. No US distro (shut down a few years back). so yeah, saving on shipping is not in their vocab, though with Audi now in the mix, maybe the italians can figure out how to run an efficient distro system.

KTM showed their initial Moto 3 entry with a carbon front wheel that looked really similar to a Rotobox design. I assumed at the time it was a Marchesini but never really thought about it since they never actually raced it with one due to rules.

No way Ducat is putting ugly wheels on their flagship Superbike, not gonna happen! :D

Look at the size of these bad boys! And they fit right up, I didn't have to trim them or the bodywork at all and it's an air-tight fit. They give you some holes on the side of the fairing bracket to drill into the ram air tube and bolt it on, but I just used black duct tape instead (lighter than 2 bolts - Ha ha!):
