gents,

as i am proceeding with my activities on the 1299 cans, i'd like to get some input regarding the covers.

on the 1199, the hex mesh came out of style after a while, even in MotoGP the started taking over my diamond mesh on the outlets :D

since the 1299 exhaust tips will be removed and the hole in the shield looks kind of naked, they will get screens as well. i have attached 2 proposals, diamond mesh, one wiht, the other without a logo that might look familiar to some...

thoughts?

Cheers,

Phil

P.S.

the cats and the access from the outer shell pose a slight problem at the moment, but i am working on a solution. depending on the outcome, i will come out with pricing.

These look great Phil! Do you have any photos of these screens on the 1299 cans yet?

So I'm wondering if I can core the homologated Akra on the R.............. hmmmmm

I had the packing removed from my Termignonis, but was advised to reinstall it by one of SA's top tuners (Alain from Dynojet) as he says the pipes had been designed for a certain back pressure to make max power - the same would be true for Akra.

+1 on the honeycomb pattern. Without logo maybe?

no prob. either.

more different ones make them more expensive, if i went just for one type, that would getcha cheaper.

i guess i will have to go with a batch of all of them in the beginning.

Mutt,
i have the SL/R Ti akras here, looking for a Ti welder in the area ...

same here though - access to the cats. Ducati should have included some covers.

BTW the stock cans are made by remus and the internal layout is pretty much similar to the 1199. just in case some smartass wants to tell you differently :D

Just a simple clean screen with a hole in the center for probes on a dyno. Black of course.

The only thing I didn't like about the 1199 screen was the line across it with the brand name or whatever that was. Logos are cool and all, but the Panigale is a clean looking bike, too many logos will cheese it up.

Simple screen just needs to look like a simple screen to look good. Just like in concourse car competitions, once you try to make something stand out and look cool, it better look really good. Or it'll end up cheesy. And since there isn't much you can do with a screen, I'd skip the logo.

But if you were to rivet your logo onto the cored cans, Termi or Leo Vince style, that might work.

I really appreciate the input!!!

you know, sometimes you want to add a personal touch and end up overloading it...

good advice here, thanks!!!

Phil,

I voted for solid and prefer the honeycomb style. I'm actually good with either
version, but I have no problem paying a few extra bucks for the solid honeycomb if it is a little more pricy.

Are the can walls titanium? I've got a tig machine but I've never had a chance to screw with titanium. If they were stainless I've got all the stuff to do that.

I guess I could break out the plasma cutter and see what I can .... up!!!!

 :D

Chris

1299 S and base are SS304 i guess, 1199R and SL are Ti

the walls and the cuts and the welds are not the problem, it's the fact that the best access is from the outside, now they are ceramic coated black and there is no more way to cover up the welds.

even if you are a great welder, they are still exposed... dunno if somebody wants that.

i will keep working on my cover piece.

I'd vote for plain and simple. It's more elegant and refined that way. And steer clear of the shield/curve logo design - I can't quite place it, but I'm sure I've seen something similar somewhere before and it might already be trademarked. ;).
