So, I already know of a couple of 1299 Superleggera's that are coming up for sale.

There's this one on Ebay (However, this sale may end/be sold at some point so apologies if the link is broken by the time you read this)

Ducati Superleggera 1299 BRAND NEW NO. 207 | eBay

And also one through my local dealership.

Basically it would appear these people have bought the bikes, enjoyed the track event hosted for them including the once in a lifetime chance to ride WSBK's, are selling them on, still making money on the bikes and essentially getting that experience for free!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

yep - I saw this bike too and guessed the same. It was only a matter of time before they appeared on the secondary market. I can't recall what they cost new ( £72k springs to mind) so I'm sure the seller will make a few quid.

I'm a capitalist, so fair play to them! Just wish I had that money going spare.

I met a guy years ago through my business that only drove Ferrari's. He explained that since he'd bought so many, he was always on the list for the next one and would sell his current one for more than he bought it for, so they were essentially free (yes, I know there is opportunity cost lost etc, but you get the point).

#richpeopleproblems lol must be nice. I wish I had that kinda spare capital I have been saving for the better part of a year to buy my next bike cash. I have gotten to the point where If I can't buy it out right I don't need it in my life.

With production levels and pricing where it is now, that doesn't really work that well these days. The special editions? sure. But not the regular production cars. I'm guessing that when you had this conversation, it was probably 10 or 15 years ago when that was very possible. To make it even better, these guys would lease their cars so that they didn't even have to pay full boat on the sales tax (they were not in a place like Oregon with no sales tax). And the guys I know that did that were really careful to limit their miles because they didn't want to lose money when they sold their cars. I used to tease them that they didn't really own their cars and they were just borrowing them from "the next guy" and he wanted them to be careful with his car. Hell, I still do that to my friends who don't drive their Ferraris enough. :)

Back to the 1299SL: I see the ad and I know what everyone's saying but I have a hard time thinking that guy's not going to end up selling that thing for a loss. I know that they're all "sold out" but I had a dealer push me hard to order one and I know that didn't happen with my Ferrari dealer when the La Ferrari was announced. Point being, it's not like the demand is through the roof for these and people just can't get them.

If the 1199SL is any indication, we will see basically new 1299SL examples sell for $50k in two years...

I bought my 2008 1098R at 50% discount with less than 2500 miles. I hope to do the same with the 1299SL. To this day I have never ridden a bike better than my 1098R but I suspect the 1299SL is be a better bike.

Well, in my meager and meaningless opinion, the 1098R and 1199SL are my two favorite Ducatis, with the 998R a close third. When you do add an SL, don't let go or the 1098R to do so. It's hard to say exactly how they compare but I guess I'll give it a shot.

The thing I love about both of these bikes is that you have to ride them. They're not so electronic that it's like they ride and you just hold on, which is where I feel (rightly or wrongly) that things are going. Yes, the 1098R has traction control while the 1199SL has a few more things but neither has an IMU or some of those other things that the new new bikes have. You still have to have a healthy dose of fear and respect for them and I love that. The other thing that I love a ton is that they're each their own bike. I don't feel like either is so close to the other that you don't get a very unique experience with each. As far as specifics go, I'll start with power.

You're not going to feel any difference in power. You're just not. I know what the numbers are and all of that but I can't tell a difference. They're both so fast that you feel that you need to up your gym time so that you can hold on better when you twist open the throttle. The SL is definitely a lot smoother than the 1098R but that's about all that you can really notice.

The SL has a slightly different position to the 1098R so you ride it a little differently. I can't describe but maybe I would say it's a bit more comfortable.

The SL is a lot stiffer feeling than the 1098R. The 1098R is really amazing in bumpy roads and corners where I feel like the 1199SL is really stiff and it makes me a little nervous in situations like that.

The one single place where you realize that the 1199SL is simply a superior machine is in the weight. You feel it EVERYWHERE. Yes, acceleration, braking, turning but even just walking the bike out from the garage. It's really special. The 1098R is really special as well but each of these bikes just have a different way of showing you their charms.

You said that you think that the SL is in fact the better bike, I suspect that when you ride your 1098R and then ride an 1199SL/1299SL and you get off the SL and say to yourself that it's the best bike you've ever ridden, it's the weight that makes you say that.

FWIW, I got my 1098R with 1,000 miles on it for half of the MSRP as well. The 1199SL was a bit under 2/3 MSRP with 63 miles on it. So again, although the 1299SL and 1299R FE are phenomenal bikes and grow on me every single day, I don't see how the 1299SL is somehow different enough that it bucks that trend.

nobody should be paying more than MSRP on this, the market for bikes is much smaller than cars so it really takes time for bikes to appreciate.

Case in point i sold my 1098R bayliss 12 months ago with 1000 miles on it for mid 20's and it hung around for a while.

V4 is coming and were in a global recession. It will be sold at a loss

1199SL/D16RR are sold at a loss I don't see this being any different

And I picked this up new in the box from Italy along with the swingarm. So much for exclusivity and the cost were much less that what was estimated. They made a nice profit selling the 1299SL.

Wow! how much was it ?

The wheels I have not seen. I have seen everything else for sale. 1299SL pistons and aluminum liners, Pankl Ti rods, CF subframe and tail, Reba bodywork all in the Ducati boxes. I think Tamburini factory sold the first sets. The wheels carry a Ducati Part#. Made by BST. I was told that 500 sets plus spares were contracted to BST by Ducati. Expect to see an SL like wheel from BST soon. Personally I like the look of the wheel quite a bit. Unfortunately I am not a fan at all of the rim/spoke interface. There is less robustness in that area than the current BST and certainly less that Rotobox. Again the split spoke looks great. I would ride these on the track. I'm not touching those things for longevity on a street bike. There will be a new crop of CF wheels in the next 6-12 months.

Great. I be looking out for those CF wheels. Been looking to get a second wheels for the track mostly.

I may have to look into getting the CF swing arm afterwards. sexy!

Gosh! Quite a scoop there Endo. What's the going rate for the full exhaust system? Are you saying ALL the RIBA bodywork panels are available? I'd be interested in where you are sourcing all this from as I've exhausted all my options in Italy, despite close friends and relations who live there, putting feelers out within both dealers and race communities. PM me if you have some information of help.

That is the point of running a business, to make a profit. Bigger the better.

Nice find BTW. Did you buy those from the people that make the part for Ducati?

You found the subframe? Is it worth the upgrade in your opinion? It is really the only piece I want. I can't run the Fullsix CF tail full tail due to the Under tail exhaust, (I don't want to have to drill and engineer a bracket on a $3k piece).

The subframe would allow me to reduce weight and keep everything more or less the same.

Your thoughts?

Thanks.
