No problem however on that overpriced over rated scooter you paid waaaaaaay too much for the only thing you will be seeing is a distant shot of the back of me. Denial folks. It's a sickness. Hopefully, treatable. Ducati just sucker punched the SL owners. They "exclusive" piece is non existent. Parts are for sale from a couple of places. Tamborini factory has all the parts for sale.the owners of the few bikes that have come up for sale can't get out of them what they paid for them because the hype of the V4 has all but sunk the short lived 1299SL into the abyss. Nice bike. Horrible buy. The 1199SL with a few miles on it is a monumentally better deal. Fact

...from the looks of that part you got there, i see a few Round Holes that need a few Round Pegs.....

...in the mean time, i wonder what the weather forecast is today....:D

I'm not entirely sure about that frame. They didn't put a lot of material around the steel inserts for the engine studs. Not that it's going to break but I have seen very similar designs have issues with the inserts working themselves loose in CF. I doubt it would ever be an issue as 90% of those bikes will never see 1k miles.

Something that you didn't mention is how the "numbered but not limited" 1299R FE affects the 1299SL resale. It looks like a phenomenal bike and it's 85% the bike for half the price of the 1299SL. If you spend the $10k on the parts you bought, the 1299R FE is now 96% the bike the 1299SL is. And we all know that the 1299R FE isn't going to hold it's value so what's that going to do to 1299SL prices?

I would never fault a 1299SL owner for buying one. It's an awesome bike, plain and simple. The guys who have the passion and desire to own the best should never sell themselves short. However, if any of them bought it not out of passion but to be an investment, i.e. it's going to hold it's value or appreciate, they're just not paying attention. It's not going to happen any time soon. The only question is if a sub 500 mile 1299SL is going to be a $50k motorcycle or a $40k motorcycle.

in the web of tamburini factory i can ´t see any piece of the 1299 SL.

Well on the rational side of the US it's a nice 70 with light coastal breezes.

....you're right...i can feel the coolness as it flows over the Bronx Borough, coming on off the Atlantic.....

(has an interesting aroma as well)

there are other potentially dangerous structural issues with that frame;but yeah, the torque values must be honored like no other, both too tight or too loose could result in catastrophe, etc etc etc.

not for street use for me. same goes for the swing arm. lets not even get into the wheels and potholes...

i'd always trust the magnesium frame over this cf thing, and how negligible is the weight diff between them?

i'm really wanting the 1199sl more and more.....

science projects are what make the world go round; to wit, a "science project" [no roll eyes passive aggressive emoji's here]:

Everyone thought I was hating on the 1299SL. Those who know me and what I do know better. The bike is fancy 1299. What I was whining about was the whole integrated ploy by the mfg to get rid of a lot of stuff under the cloak of some special offering. Their plot worked. They supposedly got 500 people to grossly over pay for something that cost them little. Reba already had the molds for the CF. The didn't have molds for a CF tank. That would have incurred cost so the bike doesn't get one. The frame and swingarm were basically freebies as the mfg is make my OEM pieces for new models. Pistons, rods and liners are all easily made with automation and by OEM suppliers meaning negligible cost to Ducati. BST did the wheels but wait until you see the new BST wheels. You'll get the picture. The stuff that was not leftover 1299 or 1199sl that cost money, isn't on the bike. No high end stuff from Brembo, Ohlins, .... radiator. Stock clutch, bars etc. rear sets are nice but again leftovers from the previous SL. So bravo. You got 85k plus for a 40k bike. Not hating at all. Just the facts. They found a relatively inexpensive solution to pilfer a pile of 1299 stock and make a bunch of money on it and the icing on the cake was that they got the buyers despite confirming the V4. Genius.

No one can say you were hating on it. You said it properly: "Nice bike. Horrible buy."

But the proof is in the pudding; if you thought it was a crap bike, why would you even spend $1k, let alone $10k, on the 1299SL parts.

I would have to think that if the SL was $40k like the R FE is, you would say something like "Nice bike. Good buy."

My understanding was that the carbon tank was considered but it was not compliant with safety regulations in certain countries, hence why they opted to stick with an aluminium tank, not because RIBA did not have the moulds. When you say that certain CF parts are being made for new models, could you please expand. I am not sure RIBA composites are in the market to make "freebies" even if they are to produce parts for new models so how does that work? Each RIBA subframe for example (1199SL and 1299SL) takes 2.5 days to produce at significant cost. That has to be absorbed somewhere. Curious to know that is all. There is no doubting that the 1299SL is overpriced, but as a company and a business, if you could extricate £72,000 from someone and they were willing to pay, would you turn them away? The 1299SL is the sum of it's parts. They may not stack up financially, necessarily but the finished product is sold as a package not an inventory and for that you have to stump up the cash. Clearly 500 people did.

Nobody would be talking about this bike if Ducati had not built it, just the costs of the R & D that has gone into this bike alone would cost a packet....Yes maybe it would be cheaper to build this bike cheaper, but first this bike had to built for some one else to copy it and only 500 came from Ducati and only 500 will ever be true 1299SL's.
Ducati have always been good at creating special models at special prices....it is Ducati and it is what they do and will always do. But to a true Ducatista they are the jewel in the crown....when there are no more Superbike twins around anymore....maybe the priced payed for one will not seem so bad.

Stripped down is it just another 1299 or just that little bit more.

I want one :)

The 1299S/1199R is a big step up over the 1199S/R and I would be confident the same applies to the Superleggeras. Much more of a finished machine since the model range straddles the period that the manufacturers have really integrated the electronics well, plus that engine looks to be another level in the 1299R. Agreed that it is crazy money though.

To sum up: 1299SL = more than what Ducati gives you in any previous R model

it has never been different, & most probably never will be - a simple case of "you get what you pay for"

for the Science Project guys wanting more for less, or more for more....all the power to them.....while they sit there figuring it all out, most riders might just check the weather & turn their key..... ;)
