1299 Superleggera's for sale

LOL, that's the flipping point. For 90k I better not be getting 90% of the parts that come on the bike costing less than a third the price. when you take a base 1299 and add the pieces that make it a 1299sl (factory pieces exact same bike) the tally sheet isn't even close to what Ducati charged those people. They paid 30k for a triple clamp stamp. Fact. You gotta really enjoy that trip to the factory for that kind of difference.

....was it the Lobster Bisque you returned....you stay so rigid in your approach on this topic, that one could wonder if you enjoy the bike for what it is....be it a home grown hybrid, or a factory jewel ready to ride

here we go again:
its doubtful that it is possible to take a 1299s and "convert it" (LOL!!) to an SL for less than you can buy one.....thats just laughable...next thing you know you'll factor in depreciation or dollar per mile costs.....OMG !! "get a grip"...we are supposed to enjoy them, not turn in to a coupon holding grandma at the cashier (although i must admit they impress me at times.....especially when the cashier hands them money back !!)

...anyway, here's my run on it for the umteenth time:

1299s $28k(?)

carbonara wheels - 10k
carbon frame - 8k
carbon swing arm - 8k
carbon sub frame - 8 k
carbon fairings - 8k
sand cast crank case - installed (LOL - LOL)
aluminum cylinder liners installed - (LOL)
Ti Valves installed -(LOL)
Ti Exhaust installed - 8k
Ohlins Forks (lightened) - 4k
Remote Brake lever adjuster LOL - 4k ?? lol !!
Ti tiddly-bits & bits & bits $100 ?

thats just the quick math.....ok so get out there and source it all up, upgrade the parts to your higher level....and get back to me....

Sometimes highly modded bikes are nothing more than a bucket of bolts so to speak because they haven't been tested and developed together so that the bike works seamlessly. Often highly modded bikes work great one way but are headaches in other areas or they turn into a money pit of frustration to be sold off to other unsuspecting buyers looking for a bargain (on paper). Sometimes a few choice aftermarket pieces or "highrange?" pieces from the factory can make a basic bike work almost as good (some could say arguably better than) as the real thing. But some are willing to pay extra for the factory engineering and warranty behind the machine. Yes, with Ducati one pays quite a premium for it but if you got the bucks and value is more bother than it's worth........

Join the conversation. There are more than a few guys on this very board who for less $$ built a much higher end bike and costs are easily verifiable I just bought a Factory, new in the wrapper SL frame and swingarm. There is a whole engine kit, frame etc on eBay right now. There is another guy in Houston that has 2 sets of everything. I will chime out on the dead horse. Great bike. Way overpriced but I'm sure the purchase price included a matching numbered keychain or pocket knife so I guess it's all worth it.

I think you are totally missing the point of why people buy special editions... because they are special / rare / unique. Could you build a bike that could lap a track faster than an SL for less money? Maybe. But it wouldn't be an SL. If I chose to empty my bank account and light the cash on fire, I don't see how that would affect you at all. So there's no need to sit there and call the buyers stupid or irrational. Use your money however you see fit and I will do the same.

money amounts aside....you hit the nail on the head here.....but although you can lead the horse to water, its not very easy to make them drink it...

you do not need to be a rocket scientist or science project builder to realize what you said there is valid beyond all science project reasoning

Bravo !

....he's still returning his soup he bought (yesterday) back at the deli...not for the money, but because he can make better soup !

<seinfeld soup episode>

To each their own. You point is clear. Buy a cheaper bike, modify it for much less and there you go. You have a faster bike than a $85k factory bike for a fraction of the cost. I'll have to ask about the key chain and pocket knife, didn't see that

Ducati sent pocket knives to demo riders last season - key chains come attached to new bike key

RD16RR You might want to double check you numbers against what is for sale right now. You're not even close. Ducati factory mechanics? you mean the hourly workers manning the pneumatic guns? another slap in the face to Ducati Omaha, Boulder Motorsports, Duck Shop, Fox etc. I would take a bike from those guys every day of the week over the chain smoking assembly workers at Ducati. And Castro. Not bashing the buyers. Thats what they are, buyers. They have to settle for what is given because the are not builders. Builders and fabricators get the good stuff and they get it how they want it. Buyers get what is given. That simple. Slaves to what is offered with no alternatives.

the frame is $5,500 on ebay, and the swingarm is also for sale also less than your above quote. at $5,500 for the frame i say that is a bad purchase-- really bad-- given that it's a liability on the street imnsho. the swingarm i laughed at from day one as from what i heard it's not truly solid cf.....

i'm eyeing an 1199sl, but the dealer is being obstinate given on how long they've sat on it, the next sl iteration and the v4. i could prob build a better bike out of the 1299s, but i dont have a place to do it all and dont want to anyhow. & i'm frugal, very frugal......

more importantly, you have to be nuts to eat soup from a deli, esp seafood soups. any prepared foods in supermarkets and such. oh well...

...double check...?....aren't we supposed to see the better/upgraded/less expensive than factory parts list now ?

all neatly packaged/built by the "builder of choice" as a "better than SL" motorcycle..?...cheaper, better, more reliable, faster, all mighty and all powerful

its "show me the money" time....i did my cost analysis....lets see the flipside

you're being really obtuse.

it's $5,500 OR BEST OFFER and a whopping $100 to ship:

DUCATI PANIGALE CARBON FRAME/ 899-959-1199-1299 / TELAIO CARBONIO I PANIGALE

and here's the subframe you also grossly overestimated:

DUCATI PANIGALE CARBON REAR FRAME / TELAIO POSTERIORE CARBONIO

and shouldn't you be out riding like you claimed you would be? LOL.

Not necessarily. The Riba bodywork on the 99SL is the best. Its better than the CDT stuff. CF swingarm? Its nice but the BST build is a better piece and a real CF piece. CF frame again its nice but I see zero advantage over the mag SL frame. You cant see but a bit of it anyhow. Ducati could have done a CF fairing/headlight bracket but they used leftovers. Wheels. like the look, dont like the construction.. I would take the current CDT wheels any day for the street. BST will issue very similar wheels shortly. The rest of the parts? Except for the engine pieces that i can drive to CP Carrillo 10 min from here and get are stock 1299. Dirt cheap

Had a hug this AM and Im going to Duke's for Hula Pie so I have the sweets covered. Duc 749r. If you are going to quote a post, at least have the ability to understand the context. Right, you "HAD" a bike built in the past. Slave to the talent. Enjoy your purchase. I know Ducati is .

nice finds....i guess if you're building an SL from an S this would be one of the parts you'd need LOL....yup....thats one....

but lets not stop there....thats 1 part on the list....it needs to be complied configured, implemented and built in its entirety.....so please continue :)

i under price guessed the fairings at 8k...so it will make up for the low ball guess on the frame

..i'd be riding right now, yes....but can't....gotta work..i've happened upon some recent bills to pay...and i need gas money ;)

You said you were done before. I really am after this post because this is just silly. You don't like the construction of the wheels / frame / whatever but the Ducati factory, who put thousands (or more) of hours into the development of these parts, do like the construction. So would I listen to them or a guy with a few wrenches in his garage and an eBay account? I'll have to think about that one...

Good luck with your build.

My build is done chump. I actually put miles on the bikes we build not use them for coat racks. So by your analogy, Centex, Horton etc who are "factory" home builders are much more desirable than custom builders in Atherton and Palo Alto. Additionally, you're methodology of assessing of the capabilities of my "garage" and tool selection is a good indicator of why it is easy to sell you things. I'm sure the bike looks nice in your track home.
