People spend years building experimental aircraft. Others build handcrafted furniture or sailboats ... Remember that it's a hobby, an outlet to be creative and think out of the box. There are those who would like to do more to there bikes but don't have the time, skills, tools, to do a high end build. Finally, there are those who simply don't have the spare time but still want the sheer enjoyment of riding a unique and rare performance vehicle. So they go out and buy it.

Years ago I worked in the kitchen of my fathers french restaurant. Today I will sometimes go thru the the trouble of cooking a 10 course meal for friends and family. Then again, sometimes I will just say ".... it" and spend the money to try some really good haute cuisine.

For some it's all about the journey and for others it's about the destination. Either way is is OK with me...

Well said indeed. Im beyond jealous that endo has the luxury to buy such expensive parts and build as he pleases but when he comes into every thread about a limited edition bike and ..... on it and claims his bike is far superior it totally gets old and now it sounds beyond pathetic tbh.

Yep. I guess though if you have the money to play that hard resale probably is the least of your worries but you are totally right that the home brews will be worth a fraction of what the LE bikes are.

F... ME!! That's one insane bike!

Okay, bringing this back to the topic of 1299 Superleggera resale, I checked one out today that's getting prepped for delivery. The dealer I went to has 6 on order and has a waiting list in case anyone drops out, they said. Granted, they could be absolutely full of poop but I have a feeling they're telling the truth.

I told the sales manager that I find that really wild since other places can't sell the ones that their original buyers dropped out from buying and he said he can't believe it either and never expected a waiting list. He says if he knew that he would have a waiting list, he would have tried harder to get more. He did also tell me that each one of his buyers was seriously vetted by Ducati due to some ordering shenanigans that some dealers did with the 1199 Superleggera where they effectively invented clients to order the bikes.

Hard to know exactly what's what but I found it all pretty interesting.

I can speak to the vetting part. Ducati did not want dealerships speculating on the SL and they would not deliver more than 1 bike at a time to a single dealer (to the best of my knowledge and from the Ducati NA employees I have spoken with). Each bike needs to be in the customer's hands before the next one is delivered to the dealership. Exceptions may take place where guys lose their $16k deposit and the dealership takes ownership of the bike, but that's case-by-case I imagine.

Quick question, someone said earlier in the thread that the CF swing arm IS NOT 100% CF... Is this true?

I have a FE on order from one local dealer but another local dealer says he can get me a SL if i want one. First my plan was to keep my 2013 R and buy the FE but now I'm kind of like f*** it, sell the R and buy a SL.

The swing arm is a combination of carbon fiber & aluminum - it is a Ducati part and built to their spec for the SL for street use - the other brands, making the CF SA for the Panigale are not subject to the same standards/regulations a mfgr is required to meet, therefore after market guys can build a carbon fiber component which may indeed have less structural integrity than a Mfgr Engineered unit or may in fact build a stronger over engineered unit simply because they choose to, and feel they can sell it.....as in the end it is all about sales

You're idea on getting the SL over the FE would simply be a matter of how much do you want from the bike - in reality there is little difference other than weight between the 2 bikes.....but 368lbs (wet) versus 405lbs (wet) is a real significant difference that, if you don't know yourself already, you can and will definitely feel each and every time you ride it...

If you're still not sure, but feel you've been riding enough to feel the differences, & can afford it, then sign up for the SL....as usual, when Ducati gives you more of what you already love, you will not be disappointed

Just my opinion of course, however I'm fairly sure there are many others that feel the same way - good luck either way though..the FE will be a great bike

I'd suggest though, not buying an FE & then attempt the SL conversion idea...it would cost way more, and would never be as good

anyone know who makes the kit that turns the tail light/brake light into a blinker as well...?
