allow me to suggestively rephrase this question

"SL or '14R with Akra"

....bring a pen:D

Believe me, I had the 2014 R with full Akra EVO system. I now have the 2015 R with homologated Akra.......... 2015 R all the way.

2015 Panigale R.

That's what i'm doing, giving up the 2014 R and getting the new one. I think I'll retire the 2015 to my lounge room on some stands when I'm done. That new look will never get old.

There is always something new and exciting around the corner. If you currently enjoy your bike, then my vote would be to keep it and mod it to your heart's desire.

I agree completely.

It is easy to look at these bikes on paper and be like "this is one better because it has _____ and _____ and _____". But at the end of the day, how is it going to make a tangible, "real world" difference in your riding experience?

When riding down the highway, are you honestly going to notice a difference? And even if you do notice a difference, does that difference make your trip down the highway more enjoyable?

So when trying to decide, I would ask myself these questions...

Do you race?
If so, are you running within 2-4 seconds of a lap record pace?
If you can't get on the podium with your 14R, do you honestly feel your 15R would get you on the podium?

If the answer is "no" to any of those questions, then going from a 14R to a 15R doesn't make any logical, rational sense.

Especially when you will take a huge financial hit when you trade in your 14R, and then will be paying new-bike price on the 15R. So basically you would be throwing away thousands of dollars without receiving any tangible benefits. That money would be better spent upgrading your current bike.

But with all of that being said, you cant beat the feeling of "tearing off the plastic" of a new bike. If you simply want a new one, go for it. But don't do so under the impression that a 15R will be so much better, more enjoyable and bring you a completely different riding experience than your 14R.

The placebo effect is bigger with motorcycles than it is with anything else. Mostly because it is human nature to want to justify things/purchases.

There is no telling how many times over the years I have seen posts like "put in a BMC Race air filter, WOW the bike pulls so much harder now" or "Installed my new slip-on, totally different bike" or "these new velocity stacks really woke the bike up" etc.

When at the end of the day, any of those things might have added 1-2hp, at most.

Or when people will trade their 2008 GSX-R600 in for a 2010 GSX-R600 and then go on and on about how the new bike is so much better. When the fact is they are absolutely identical. Suzuki didn't change anything from 08 to 10.

Anything that is louder, seems faster. Other than that, there isn't a single person on any forum (myself included) that can feel a 2hp gain with their butt dyno. And really, when you are in the seat going down the highway, it is all about the same.

completely agree with what chaotic said. but the hardest part is my local dealer is 1 mile from my house and i drive by it every single day. If i somehow "accidently" walk in and see 15R I dont know what i would do lol.

Completely understandable. :D

Ha, I guess it's a good thing that the nearest dealer is 2.5hrs away from me...and I'm still buying one. If there was a dealer in town I'd probably want a whole garage full of Ducatis.

Have one of each and call it a day.

If you have the financial means, get the 15R. Remember modding the 14R will void warranty.
