Hey guys, question im strugling with. I met with a dealer who will sell me a 2012 non abs for about $2300 less than a 2013 which of course comes stock with ABS, im just trying to figure out if the extra oil view hole in the faring, the ABS and build date of 3 months newer is worth the $2300 extra, I know everyone has their own opinions so id like to get some input before i make a final decision. Bikes look identical just comes down to paying $2300 for ABS and a model year newer.... HELP!!

Down the road, the $2300 probably will cover the depreciation, but not the difference in ABS/non-ABS. I paid the extra $1k for ABS because I heard that since Europe requires ABS on bikes, that Ducati was probably going to make them standard at some time. So I think non-ABS will not be worth near as much compared to ABS. Not to mention it is a potentially livesaving feature (a whole thread on this).

Ducati web-site still shows ABS as an option (and I know I'm in the 2013 because there is a picture of a white one right above the specs).

Have ya'll confirmed ABS is standard?

I said I heard it will be at some point. It started out the base wasn't even going to have the option. Bottom line, $1k of the $2.3k is for ABS, then the dealer is only giving $1.3k off list for a less desibable bike (non-ABS).

So Trauma, your decision is to just suck it up, take the 13 with the ABS? the $2300 would be well spent then? the $2300 is out the door differences between the 2 bikes. The 2012 without abs is 16800 and the 2013 with abs is 19100 out the door with everything.

All 2013 Panigales will be ABS models in the USA......

We still have 2012 S non ABS models in stock if any one you know is looking!!!!

Absolutely go with ABS. Has already saved my behind and I wouldn't think of not having it anymore. ABS is absolutely worth it!

Yes, absolutely. You will need/love ABS! And when you try to sell it someday, the first question will be does it have it, as all makes/bikes will by then.

I can't tell the difference. My 1199 S does not have ABS. The only bike I had with ABS was a BMW S1000RR and my 1199 S brakes just as good. I have not had to slam on the brakes in a panic stop though. ABS may help in that situation.

There are 2013's listed on Cycle Trader - and in stock at the dealer for $17,995. Are you saying they have ABS at that price?

Sooooooooooo ABS is going to be standard in the US?? Ducati USA states its still an option...? I hope it's standard!.

Abs is standard on all 2013 1199 according to Ducati. I got a great deal though for the 2013 ABS as I paid 19250 OTD with all fees taxes etc. I'm happy and even though I've never had abs, it can't hurt plus the abs light just gives me a step above those who don't have that abs light when it comes time to resell :) this is as close to the S as I can afford....

ABS without a doubt.
When I was looking I asked myself the same question. Not that I am planning on selling mine any time soon but if that were the case I thought the ABS would sell quicker, maybe not for more but at least it would sell.
I have seen comments that people don't need ABS because they already know how to ride. I am not worried about me; it's the moron that pulls out in front of me that I am worried about. Grab all the brake while still being able to maneuver....and stop........Priceless.

+1 I was cruising through an intersection with a green light and a car turned right in front of me. I was going about 50 to 55MPH. I know for a fact it was the ABS that saved my .... Even if that situation never happens again, it was worth the added expense!

My biggest reason for wanting ABS on a Panigale is that if you get caught out in the rain the tires that come on it are like slicks down the middle. Stopping in rain could be quite an experience. I'm a big fan of ABS on any bike though.

The Cycle Trader pricing is inaccurate. The MSRP for a base 2013 1199 Panigale is 18995 and comes standard with ABS in your choice of color, white or red!

In one, two or three years you will REALLY regret not having the ABS (which is awesome by the way), but you will have long forgotten about the $2,300. And it's worthwile to go with the newer model.

It cost me 3K in medical expenses after I wrecked my 848 when a deer took out my friend ahead of me. ABS in that case would have kept me upright. Plus it would have saved me a totaled bike.
