i wouldn't know....Ducati must have a good idea though...i do not think they easily share the information...but in each case i had, they got right to the repair without a pause (except parts arrival, which wasn't too bad) - my dealership was also always in front of the logistics curve and made sure everything was communicated

the way the engine is treated, street versus track, does not seem to be related, as i've seen track only bikes (R & SL)with the same condition

by the way....i have been using a small catch bottle and check it often - (not a bad idea)

Thank you for the info you sent. Greatly appreciated.

So the culprit of the smoke and oil in the airbox is indeed the Liner and Piston rings. After measuring the vertical liner, it is now not completely round. It's funny that the horizontal one is still within spec. the vertical Piston ring gap is excessive compared to the horizontal one. Pistons look quite worn at the skirts which is possibly the indication of the piston rocking issue.

I'm going to order the piston/liner /ring kit and of course the head gaskets.

Then I' might go ahead and sell it and buy a V4 R when it comes out.

Nice. Some pictures would be awesome! Not a lot of pics floating around of the engine internals around here.

Some YouTube videos would be awesome of the rebuild.
