Regardless of looks we all have to admit it's a good time to be in motorcycles and cars. We are in the midst of another HP war and it is in incredible to see what we can produce today compared to 5 or 10 years ago.

Amen! This man speaks the truth.

It looks like plastic surgery went gone wrong, with the old model i really didn't have any problem with the look in case i wanted to buy it, but this one hell no, no matter how great the performance is.

I agree! I'm glad I picked up my 2014 when I did because this is not in any way better looks wise...

All my friends that are current S1000RR owners are very disappointed in the new design as well. Interestingly, on of those friends said it seems to be attracting those who aren't current owners, while alienating those who are.

I'm ambivalent on the looks, I think it looks OK except for the pronounced "beak" of the lower front fairing. Definitely intrigued about the lighter weight, improved chassis, latest-gen electronics and, of course, more power.

It may have been better had BMW just left the design alone. Simply switching the sides of the winking face gives the impression they are either apathetic or completely unimaginative.

Neither! The intent was plainly to keep the asymmetric look, which was originally done to differentiate the S1KRR from other, ahem, similarly styled sportbikes, but to enable anyone who cares to immediately pick it out at a distance as the NEW bike. Create envy, etc... Upsell! :p

Barf:confused:

I'm just sitting here waiting for Ducati's 2015 lineup...EICMA needs to just hurry the hell up already...

I'll pass... Still reminds me of a roided up 90's Gixer. Powerful yes, but lacking of ... appeal

Or perhaps both.

I have girl friend for ... appeal I have a bike to ride not to look at. I am a current S1000 owner and while I am not nuts about the way the new one looks but I welcome all the other new changes.

First ride review I've seen from the international launch. Doesn't look too bad in video. Interesting comments in the full review on the clutchless downshift feature:

Mmmh, no arguments on the amazing performance of this bike.

Clearly one of the best packages available.

... from a looks perspective, the more i see the front, the more subtle the asymmetry becomes. Almost looks like two oval lights, just with different shape apertures.

I'm really liking the ease with which one can switch from standard to GP shift while maintaining clutchless up and down shift capability. This is likely the best bang for the buck liter bike available - I'm a bit envious of those of you who can tolerate the aesthetics.

+1 on how CHEAP it is to change to GP Shift. The clutchless downshift doesn't seem altogether sorted but then again the reviewer didn't get to live with the bike, only a few sessions in one day to try it out. The on-the-fly adjustability of the TC is also a major improvement. Like he says early on in the review, this "base" model with all the options is an HP4 in everything but name, plus it has more power and a better torque curve. I'm really thinking HARD about applying my money budgeted to an extended warranty and major valve service to one of these. Wonder how much they are going to go up from last year?

Again, my condolences to the HP4 owners, why BMW would usurp your machine (in technical ability, at least) so soon is quite strange.

Read the review from Don Canet, sounds like an awesome package. I still go crosseyed when I look at the front.

Kinda like when Ducati came out with the R over the Tri the next year for $2k more...

Not really. The R and Tri served different purposes. And the s1k is about $10k LESS than the HP4 Comp.
That's why I said "kinda"... I understand the different purposes and agree with your statement but I was irritated when they released it for only $2k more over the Tri which was a better buy for he money in my opinion. I love my Tri and am not getting rid of it anytime soon but if I knew they were going to release the R the next year for only $2k more would have waited and purchased it instead.
