2022 V4S - DES light on (rear shock code)

Hi Guys,

Recently bought my first duc after many years riding and tracking S1000's and it's a brilliant bike. Just after I picked it up from the dealer the DES light came up on the dash. It's there 95% of the time. They had a look at it on the first service and there was a code up for the rear shock which was cleared but came back as soon as the bike was test rode. No open circuits evident apparently and I checked all the wiring plugs myself too. Hasn't been a big deal using the fixed suspension settings (just did a 3000km / 7 day ride through the snowy mountains here in Australia) but the bike is going in for further investigation in a week or so.

Anyone had or heard of this issue before? It's a very new dealer here in Australia and they have said that for this reason they don't have the wealth of product knowledge that some others may have. I'll give them the opportunity before taking somewhere else of course but thought I might be able to get a head start here. Cheers guys..

First I’ve ever heard of this. But this is coming from the guy who had the wrong forks installed on his 22 PV4S.

Sounds like they need to swap the shock. And compensate you for selling you a defective product and your time

Yeah, shock solenoid is likely too slow for real-time DES activity, so fixed mode works ok. Replace rear shock to fix.

Hilarious. Like they intended on doing that to piss off a customer. You have zero information to suggest there was malice on the part of the dealer. Get real dude.

If they have the dealer tool or a like product they can test the shock. There's a test mode for the forks and shock in which it spins the adjuster to full in and full out. You can also test it yourself by setting it to manual mode, adjusting it in the menu to either extreme and pushing down on the seat to work the shock.

Speculation, but I suspect the motor is turning as it should, but the position isn't being reported to the ECU which is leading to the error. They're going to have to put in some work but its a warranty item and nothing to get in a pinch over.

Thanks for the replies. I'll make some further checks on adjusting the R/C on the shock. Sure it'll get sorted out without issues.

Where in Australia are you? I have a shock sitting around in my workshop you can borrow to see if it's that, im in Perth but postage would only be around $50.00

Oy vey… someone doesn’t get customer recovery.

Time is money. If you value your time, you should get compensated for it. Doesn’t have to be malice for Ducati to do the right thing. Doesn’t hurt to ask either.

Part of the Parallelogram of life.......?;-)

Yeah, the big problem is that I don't get it in this equation. Customer recovery...FFS.

Haha. It was a good trip!

** Update - Bike has been at the dealer for 5 weeks now. A new rear shock was ordered in from Italy and installed over a week ago. Somehow my battery went flat and obviously being a dead lithium battery now, won't accept charge  I reckon the dealer left the ignition on and that's how it's stuffed as there was not a hint of anything wrong with it when it went in. Anyway, a week later a replacement battery has been approved under warranty and now it appears there's no stock in Australia ffs. Find out today what's going on. The bike still hasn't been road tested after the shock replacement. Ducati Australia best be ripping a battery out of a new bike if there's not one in stock as I'm not waiting for a damn battery to come from Italy. Pretty disappointed at the moment to say the least, just hoping this is all resolved soon. Owned the bike for3 months and it's been back there for almost half of that...

That is sh#thouse tbf. 100% would be expecting them to take the battery from another bike and deal with the warranty battery themselves.

Yeah man it is. New Dealer, no experience and everything by the book. Not sure I'll be going back here. Was stranded on the side of the road at one stage too after the QS bolt came out of the shift lever. I thought I'd get the dealer to deliver the bike to me when new swapped over to race shift. No loctite and rounded hex on the bolt. Same thing always stands - if you want something done properly you just have to do it yourself...

Let ducati Australia know, they hold their dealers to a very high standard so I'm sure that would help get things moving. I'm assuming it's not Fraser's

If it comes to it I will. Not wanting to stir the pot too much yet. Not Fraser's no. Sydney Ducati. I haven't heard the greatest things about Fraser's either since all the latest staff turnover but might have to find out for myself.

Hold Ducati Aus’s feet to the flame. Might be worth talking to your consumer protection consul

I had a similar problem albeit w the front fork and got an adequate measure of goodwill from DNA for the inconvenience.

Your time is money. Everything has value and when companies don’t meet expectations they should be held accountable.

Epic Picture!
And Details please on the Back/Tail Pack!
Also I agree with you and the others the Dealer should just rip a battery out of one of their other New Bikes to get you on your way!

Ventura Rack bars and EVO-40 pack. Only problem is you'll need to throw on your stock tail tidy to clear the bar work in most cases and promptly remove that ugly ..... when you get home.
