Greetings,
I'm considering either the 2022 VRS or V4R for my first track bike. While I've almost 40+ years and 1M+ miles of dirt and street riding under my belt, I'm not a racer by design, but want to start riding tracks here in SoCal. While I recognize the price delta between the 2 bikes, as I usually spend almost the initial price of my bikes on modding them, I'd prefer to buy the bike it'll ultimately become, if that option is available.
I welcome your thoughts and suggestions!
True, just runs like a R3 between 4500-6500 rpm!!!Unreliable? It doesn't spit oil out of engine seals after 20mins at Jerez

Coil packs in earlier models maybe, rest is isolated cases. The crank position sensors fail more often than a gear position sensor on a V4 Ducati 8D
And the coil packs rattle themselves to pieces, but BMW won't do anything about it.
I definitely know more Gen4 BMWs with serious problems than Ducatis.

You forget that an average NoLimits day has 3-4x more Gen4s than V4s hence the disparity that you observe thinking bmw is unreliable.
Mine is 8000kms. Camshaft sensor failed recently and that's about it.
I must admit, I haven't done an exhaustive survey!
I was at Jerez last year, there was about six V4Rs and a few V4s, all ran the whole event without issue. Two Gen4s sat there doing nothing with failed components and disappointed owners.
There's probably not much difference in their reliability records in reality, just one brand you expect it more from.
Although, tbf my first S1000RR (a gen2) went through three engines back in the day. But, my Gen3 is as reliable as a Korean hatchback.
Yamaha R1s destroy their engines for fun, new Fireblades boil themselves to death and Aprilias need new top ends every three days. Just leaves the Suzuki and Kawasaki if you really want a reliable litre bike...
Panibadboy, that’s your 4V on the Michi carpet?I have both, so first hands experience.
Just a quick bike rebuild in between sessions.
No, I thought about SBK specced bike, but it's so much hassle to maintain it. The guy rebuilds the clutch every 2 days. .... that.Panibadboy, that’s your 4V on the Michi carpet?
Ha cool. Nice bike mate. Yea the exotic stuff sure is nice but keeping it that way is another story. Thanks for sharing.
300 eurosI might be able to afford the carpet????
NoYou really have to be riding in the top 1% to make use of a machine like that.
