I can also confirm that Ducati is working on a releasing an update to fix this. I have actually put the current 23 US cal on a 21 Streetfighter V4 on my dyno and confirmed the problem that Shiv is describing.

Just bought my ‘23, collecting this week. Any chance they’ll have something released by the time I bring it back in for break-in service? Nice to hear Ducati is working on it but unfortunate they released it like this…

Thanks for the investigation!

You should expect at least 4 weeks for an update to be released and that will be super fast for a big company like Ducati. There is a lot of red tape involved in releasing calibrations, writing the technical bulletins to go with it and implementing it in the diagnostic tool that will perform the ECU update.

I’m hearing that the time frame is possibly a matter of days, not weeks. But I’ll know more later this week.

Well, that would certainly be amazing. I'll be checking the thread for any updates.

Thanks!

I am not sure why anyone is surprised. This is the way of the world: street bikes sold through dealerships are garbage out of the box and need to be 'prepped' this is why pipe and flash from a reputable tuner is a basic requirement.

The software issue with the current US calibration is not typical. Any stock bike that can potentially go into limp mode by normal riding is a safety issue that needs to (and will be) addressed BR the manufacturer. This is not to be mistaken by torque limiting/sound limiting schemes applied by other manufacturers. No one likes them (except for the feds) but at least the bike is useable without aftermarket involvement.

So just what I know about this. I just picked up a new 2023 Streetfighter V4S last week and within a few days had the 600 mile break in covered.
Saturday I took into dealer for 600 mile service and after performing service they took it out for test ride and told me about the problem that it keeped going into limp mode.
They did not know why and I left the bike with them. Today they called and told me of this exact issue and said they were told by Ducati a software update would be released within 5-7 days.

My break-in service is scheduled for 5/20; hopefully, they'll have it sorted by then.

Thanks for sharing.

I surprised they are taking action that fast. I hope it works out for 23 SF owners. I'd love to see a before and after breakdown of the maps if anyone has the capability to read them.
Well apparently you were right the time frame has now gone from 5-7 days out to 2-3 weeks.
My level of disappointment with Ducati is over the top.
How could they put these bikes out without testing enough to realize this problem.

Ahhhh that's unfortunate, I'll have to trek out to my dealership (80 miles) again as it won't be out by my break-in this Saturday. The bike is fantastic, but really unfortunate that the exhaust valves close above 5k RPM in 2nd gear. That's a no-no Ducati; it feels like the bike is breaking and struggling for air. Not what you'd expect from this quality/price point.

To reiterate what's been said, HOW ON EARTH DID THEY SHIP BIKES LIKE THIS?

If you don’t want to wait for the Ducati recall, I do have a sw fix delivered though the OpenFlash Tablet. Resolves 2nd gear issue and adds a but more power on an otherwise stock bike.

I have been talking to Ducati about the issue and they are saying the new program will be available 6/05.
I did pick up my bike from the dealer and its not too difficult to just ride with the issue just sometimes a little weird when exhaust valve closes.
I am just trying to get in and out of 2nd gear quickly.
Other than this minor setback I got to say this bike is incredible.
I am setting up a meeting with Dave Moss to help get the suspension set up which will be great from what I read this guy knows his stuff.

Can I confirm this statement? Does this mean that the 2023 ECU flash can work on the 2021 SF? I have a 2021 and I was thinking of getting a flash does this mean I can use a 2023 with some of the "Mode" benefits?
Thanks.

2021/22 Ducati produced two different versions of the SF V4. The 2020 based Euro4 with two O2 sensors and a long rear header and the Euro5 with four O2 sensors and a short rear header. In Europe all sold bikes were Euro5 and in the US they stayed Euro4. In 2023 now it appears all bikes are now Euro5 based worldwide. The ECU for the Euro4 has a different boot software than the Euro5 2021/22 which is easily compatible with the Euro5 2023 software so that can be upgraded. So you would need to check if you have a Euro4 or Euro5 bike.

The power modes are controlled by the Dashboard and the pre-2023 Dashboards only have 3 power modes (High-Medium-Low) where the 2023 now has the addition of the FULL mode. But that is not a problem at all. I will unrestrict the High and Medium modes for full torque in all gears.

I received an update from Ducati that the update for the ECU is now available. I will be getting mine updated this week. Overall I have to say I am pleased with Ducati Customer Service. Problems can happen and they jumped right on this and got it corrected.

There’s also logistics to releasing the technical memo, like getting it translated into multiple languages accurately etc…my ex worked for PADI, the Scuba Diving Certification group, whenever technical instructions are created there is a huge process just in the translations and verify subject matter accuracy in the translations etc…I’d say more like 3 to 5 months if they have to make a technical instructions release.
