The spacer (which is what they call a thrust bearing) can be a little thick or thin depending on mis matched flanges or carriers used. Also pay attention to what cush drives are used as well it all can throw things off. I have machined bunch different thickness thrust washers to dial in my alignment and use two different laser tools to verify my rear sprocket to front sprocket alignment.
Following up on this---so with this particular setup---the stock spacer is too thick to allow perfect chain alignment? It needs to be machined down thinner? I'm considering your setup, but I don't have access to a lathe. Surprised the manufacturer allowed the sprocket carrier tolerance to be "out". Is this machining absolutely necessary? I certainly want correct chain alignment.
