i think the 899 is overall a better bike and alot easier to ride on the street i don't really get why poeple like riding it on the street as you can't really get to use any of it's power which is high up the rev range.

I have a similar opinion to it on the track and think for tight technical courses it's fantastic however on a big hp track the 1199 runs away from it but i think the majoriy of riders would be quicker on ithe 899.

I would love Ducati to make a R version of it, or take the SL approach and look to drop weight off it.

An 899R would be sick. Just leave off the elec. suspension and do manual ohlins ttx with S/R wheels, Some titanium engine parts, Up/Down QS, the SL, calibration thingy and weight saving stuff, lol Akra Full Exhaust std. Boom. Kick ... bike. 99% of riders on here couldn't push that to its max. I'd pay the same for that as an Panigale R cause I wouldn't push it to the max on the street or track for a few years if ever.

going from an 848 to the 1199. On the street I'm not going to rev any twin over 8K anyway.

We redlined both bikes hard, 1rst and 2nd gear in the canyons.

Both the 848 and the 1199 and I suspect the 899, all do roughly 100mph in second gear.

The 1199 just gets there a slight hair quicker and with better suspension on the S I have.

In the canyons pushing the bike I would never go back to the 848, it was a torture rack after 300 miles of hard riding.

No one buys these for just street, and both suck in the city, and on the track who over is the best rider goes the fastest, bike doesn't matter as much as skill.

Al I know is the 1199S made me a much better rider out of the gate, and I was much faster in the canyons then the 848 due to suspension and comfort.

Im sure I could do similar on a 899 less the the pull over 100mph in third gear. As that was the big noticeable difference with the 848's power.

Most of the time we never see 3rd gear redline in the canyons. But I still would not downgrade.

i don't think having a 899 is a downgrade but smaller capacity bikes are easier to handle so unless you are running top of the pack in A i think most people would be quicker on a smaller bike.

Under 100 in the canyon, I don't think either bike will make much difference with the same rider. Less the lack of high end suspension on the 899.

They really do need to have a 899 with all the good suspension stuff on it.

Im dead sure I would have much more confidence on the 1199S then the 899.

If I had a 899 with Ohlins and a full termi, I doubt I would upgrade.

I don't think the smaller bike is easier though, its heavier.

Ducati 899 Panigale vs. Ducati 1199 Panigale- Comparison Review

but to summarize
two-time AMA SuperSport championship runner-up Hayden Gillim run the two back to back on the tight and twisty Streets of Willow Springs. With our VBOX recording the data, the lighter, more agile 899 trounced the 1199 by 1.4 seconds (1:18.94 versus 1:20.36), even though its max trap speed of 127.5 mph was significantly slower than the 1199’s 133.4. What gives? The 1199 has so much power that it’s a handful on such a tight track. If we conducted the same matchup on Willow Springs’ ultra-fast main road course, the results would have been lopsided the other way.
On the street, it’s a toss-up. Both bikes get exceedingly hot in traffic and have hard-core, track-oriented riding positions. But both are also far more refined and civil than any Ducati superbikes of the past.
If your intention is to keep your new Panigale on the street and you can afford the $4,000 premium, the 1199 is a great choice. But for those interested in hitting trackdays, the 899 is our pick.

i think Jarel had similar results and was quicker on the 899.

That doesn't surprise me one bit. Particularly on street tires. For reference, Jeremey Toye used to hold the lap records for both 600's and 1000's (It's been a while, I don't know who has it now) at the Streets of Willow. He turned a 1:14.271 on a CBR1000rr and a 1:14.931 on an R6. Both race prepped naturally.

On the street, it’s a toss-up.

Was what I took away from it.

And I was trying to address the finer points, from my personal perspective.

Remember, it all comes down to personal preference.

One big factor is the riders weight If you are 175 lbs and up I recommend the 1199. The 600/750/899 just doesn't pull as hard with that kind of weight on it.

He did but also claimed his 848 was the fastest. I don't know if he beat that with the prepped 899.

But he did say this below as well

If it was my bike and budget did not come into play I'd get an 1199 for a street bike over the 899,

Having ridden both a lot. The 899 is better and tamer for the street.

1. You put the power down and its planted, no herk and jerk jekyl and hyde feeling which is great for the street.

2. Its 100% manageable power thru the rev spectrum. The 899 rev is perfect for the street. The 1199 up higher is crazy fast. Like, you miss the street name you needed to turn down fast.

3. Takes bumps a lot better. Philly and area roads are like off roading on a bike, you cant avoid it here. 899 flawless. 1199 will jar your spine.

Just my input. Being said that also. I prefer the 1199. Same reason I jumped out of a plane in the army. Thrill, excitement and balls out power.
Thanks for a great response. As long as I can afford it, and I can, I'm buying the faster bike for the same reasons you are.

Like somebody told me years ago, it's my .... and my bar of soap. I'll wash it as often as I want.

It is yours to do with what you want. Just always get what matches you. I treat buying a bike like getting engaged if I wouldn't love and care for it yet playing lovingly and then sometimes dirty and freaky I wont buy it.
