Ok..There has been a lot of talk regarding Ducatis recent email out the their dealers... so I am starting a clean new thread so as to clear up some questions I have...

The email mentioned ..among other things... the suggestion of a new 41T rear sprocket...this idea I like a lot... My confusion/question revolves around their mention of the new Ecu Map they mention along with this "upgrade"... Is this new map different from the one we got in early November?? The 1199R comes with the 15/41 set up as standard and as we know it has basically the same SuperQuadro as every other bike (save the Ti Rods)... so would it be a stretch to think that Ducati have a map based on the newer gearing and 1199R ..that they are releasing to us?? If so then that's wicked :) I am hoping that this is so....

Hi STW,
Don't get too excited.

The revised mapping is the one that was released late last year TSB-12-005, and is covered under warranty. It is stated to be appropriate for both the 39 and 41 sprockets.
I should imagine that most people would already have it by now, or are soon to be upgraded at the next service.

The Z 41 rear sprocket is an offering at a reduced price, and one still has to purshase a new longer chain to suit. Available from late March.

Regards,
Brad

Also. There are other companies who have better deals and equipment than what they are offering, perhaps less expensive too. Think hard and do extensive homework before jumping at their offer on sprocket. Its also a perfect time to add a carrier to the system to make any future sprocket changes much easier!

I will post the system and links up here just to show you alternatives. Going up two teeth is gonna make quite a difference down low, hence reason I only went up one. As stated above, dont go getting all excited about this "deal" Ducati is offering on this sprocket issue. There is better stuff out there which just may look better for you too!

You make a valid point..... I am not obsessing nor would I necessarily buy the 41T from my dealer....:) I was probably more intrigued with the idea of another new map ..specific to this gearing.. However it appears I might be mistaking this for the map I already have (Circa 11/2012)????

I went to Ducati Bellevue today and they were aware of the memo regarding the new sprocket, heat shield and ecu map. They said that the new map is different then the one just released a few months ago and referred to it as the 2013 map that hasn't been released to them yet. It will work with or without the new sprocket. So, I don't know what to think... Will just have to wait and see when it's available.

I agree with others regarding the new sprocket. If that's something I'm going to do, I'm pretty sure ill look into a set up from Kyle Racing, et al.

Yes I believe the last update which most people have done already is the only one and there is no such other .

Alternate Rear Sprocket Setup

This is what I decided to run with about 4 months ago. As seen in my other posts, just by going up by ONE TOOTH requires a new chain (longer) to accommodate the larger sprocket. Anyone seeking something similar to this is encouraged to contact Bellissimoto and Motowheels and inform them that I advised you to call. I know them both well enough to perhaps land you a discount, though up to them of course.

Driven Rear Sprockets:

Hub Flange

DID 525 Chain:

Another cool alternative rear hub & carrier:
BellissiMoto - Ducabike Drivetrain, Hub Flange

Thanks Gunny!

Thanks for the info on the sprockets Gunny. You make a great point and I must say your rear sprocket and carrier bling looks sssick...:D

Did you notice much of a difference between the 39 and 40 tooth? Is the 41 gonna make it too unmanageable with the front clawing at the sky all the time?

I thought I heard that the 1098 was a handful with the torque delivery, so does this sprocket change do the same?

now im all confused. i know about the sprockets but i thought you needed just a sproket what is all this awesome looking (and expensive) stuff that gunny posted. sure does look great and his looks amazing but how many parts do you have to buy? sprockets covers nuts chain what is actually needed and what is bling? Please help i can feel the dollars leaving my wallet as we speak. Oh how is that possible with all the upgrades i just made. even my credit cards are crying now.
Anybody know of a good part time job i can get to pay for upgrades.

Gunny, that is some nice looking schnitz! Hook us up with a rough price to have an idea on what the chain, sprocket hub & carrier it would cost. Total bling factor for me.... :D

Yah, how does it feel Gunny?

Is it true that +2 on the rear, yields a similar performance gain to -1 on the front, just wears better?

whats the difference between a sprocket flange and a sprocket hub. helllllpppppp so confused

What I've been wondering is where the speed sensor gets its readings. My impression is at the gearbox and therefore will require a speedo healer. I didn't see a front wheel sensor for speed and the like.

Yup, got the info from my dealer that a new updated exhaust heatshield and rear cylinder cover will be installed free of charge, but the New Rear sprocket in size Z41, new longer chain and new ECU mapping will be given at a "Special Price" for us Panigale owners. Though these heatshields, sprocket, chain and ECU mapping is NOT mandatory.

I repeat NOT mandatory for installation.

I read the letter that was addressed to the dealer's service dept. Exhaust heatshield and rear cylinder cover will be installed for free as a warranty item but not mandatory too for installation, so is the "Special Priced" rear sprocket, chain and ECU mapping.

But what the heck...I will my dealer install the updated heatshield and new sprocket, chain as I want better low down torque, better rideability at lower speeds in real world sportbike riding....also, awesome acceleration when doin trackdays etc...so I will pay the special price and stay with that 15/41 set-up for good.

Reagrding the software update, the MEMO reads: "TSB-12-005 New Engine Control Unit Software 12/4/ 2012". Assuming 12/4/12 is December 4, 2012 this must be a newer version. I'll check this with my dealer and will post the answer.

I've had the new mapping already, but my dealer tells me that they have this one, and it is indeed newer and different, and by iteslef is meant to smooth out low end. They already have it and said I can bring it in anytime. Be nice to see how that does before pulling the trigger on the 41T sprocket.

If it smoothes out the low end, it probably makes it less powerful, hence the recommendation to change to a 41T sprocket. Makes sense ???
