get the bmw or the r1 you will be better off in the long run. maintenance is easier and cheaper, parts are cheaper and go search this forum on all the problems with the bike instead of listening to fan boys

oh this is coming from experience i have both the bmw and the ducati.

My 1199 was the first motorcycle I ever owned and I love the bike but after laying it down on the track and almost doing it again I wish I would have bought a cheaper bike for the track but it is great for riding around the road and taking two shows. Beautiful bike to own and ride not economically feasible for track days. Like owning a vet, unless you are super experience and have the money and can afford to crash.

Yea bm parts are cheaper .... but not much

Hey man if you look any forum the majority of posts are about problems with different manufacturers products so they often paint a poor pic.

Talking to local owners and dealers the pani seems pretty reliable and the finish good.

They're all expensive to fix and to that end Ducati seems closer to the mainstream products of other Japanese and European manufacturers than ever.

I researched a fair bit and I'm not foolish enough to but a product just because I'm a fan boy( ....)

Hey guys... first post, woo!

This week, after months of agonising, I've decided to order a brand new 1299S. I've compared it against the traditional liter bikes that are out there, but I still come back to the 1299.

The demo I rode the other day didn't exactly put the bike's best foot forward. After only ~1000 miles, clearly they were rough miles, it had some surface rust on a few of the bolts, one of the control switches was broken, and the exhaust was stuffed on it.

Is this just a bad example of a thrashed bike, that's had a really rough 1000 miles and been left out in the weather? Or are these bikes delicate flowers?

What has been your experience with reliability and quality of fit/finsih?

Thanks,
B

Definitely ride the ACTUAL bike you are going to purchase..!

They all run differently.. If it runs erratic or dies on you in the parking lot avoid it like the plague. Don't fall for the dealer telling you that they can get it "re tuned" or sorted out.. They cannot fix one with problems like mine.. They can replace the ECU, the Fuel injection system and even the throttle assembly like mine was but it will NOT fix it..... If you get a bad one they cannot fix it.. It is an electrical issue in the wiring or something else from the factory during production and it will not "throw a code" on their analyzer so they have no idea.. This is a major problem with many 1299's
Do yourself a favor and read some of the posts from those that have issues with the bike dying on them in traffic etc.. Many 1299's don't have a problem however if you get one that does you are goin to be for a long aggravating ordeal and will not get it fixed... Again.. my advice is to ride the actual bike.. they are all different..
Good luck

Speedy

Dude I can talk you into it too lol. Your post asked to talk you out of it. Good luck with decision. Ride them all first

If you want a big twin, this is probably your last chance to get one. Many more years of V Fours up ahead to sample one of those.

Its a great bike, I wouldn't discourage you.

My biggest gripe is that w/ the 1299, you'll never have great fueling...best you can hope for is passable which makes it an exhausting bike to ride if your not in the mood that day.

Im in brisvegas, you might want to think about buying bike from Byron Bay Dealer, or TBayliss at Cube racing. Enjoy.

Actually both my bikes fuel great. 3000 rpm is smooth on the Anniversario. Same with the R. I'm sure I got Tuesday-Thursday build bikes.

Likewise tho I only have an S!

Fuelling is spot on on this one. Friends with panigales similarly no complaints about the fuelling ??
Must be major variations either across production or perhaps pump fuel may be a consideration in different countries ??

Think you need a test on another less abused 1299!

After fours it def takes a change in riding style but when you become accustomed to the 1299 it is very fast and rewarding.

Are other bikes faster, yes. Are other bikes cheaper to maintain yes. Do any of the other bikes give me the feeling that this amazing twin does. NO. I will most likely get the V4 when it arrives however I will not sell this 1299S. It has amazing grunt like no other i4 or V4 out there. The best advice I can give is buy the bike you wont be second guessing your self with.

Ok again HE asked to be talked out of buying one. The OP said I quote about to order a 1299 someone talk me OUT of it. I see I am the only one who tried to do what the OP asked

If you are going to order one wait the resale will drop like a rock once the v4 is out ask any 1199 owner

Don't buy one. They're awful below 50mph and the wheelie control is unpredictable ;D

Do you think so? I mean I understand the 1199 dropping in value with the 1299 having a more street friendly motor. (torque range). But if Ducati stops the the 1299 superbike all together. And it sounds like they have. I would think that having the last of the mighty twins would offset that a bit. But hey what do I know I am just speculating. ;)

Piece of crap. After all I've read I'm putting mine up for sale in the morning before it falls apart and the resale drops any farther
