About to order a brand new 1299S, talk me out of it

Ducati Forum

Do you think so? I mean I understand the 1199 dropping in value with the 1299 having a more street friendly motor. (torque range). But if Ducati stops the the 1299 superbike all together. And it sounds like they have. I would think that having the last of the mighty twins would offset that a bit. But hey what do I know I am just speculating. ;)

I agree really. The 1199 values dropped because apparently the 1299 addressed some of the shortcomings of the 1199 , non ducati'esque power/torque delivery, front end feel ... so it's more street friendly and apparently the last in the line of big twins. Resale / desirability should be very good. [emoji106]

Ok again HE asked to be talked out of buying one. The OP said I quote about to order a 1299 someone talk me OUT of it. I see I am the only one who tried to do what the OP asked

Order the BMW Superbike. It has heated grips and cruise control. Although in the reliability ratings Ducati was one step better than BMW. Go figure.

Despite the great efforts of @johnnyflies and @mark419ny, and the rest of you, I've ordered the bike.

Its due to arrive Friday or Saturday (hopefully Friday :D)

I'll include pics in the next update along with the various dealer experiences.

Youll love it!!

Well done

Be interested to know how it compares with your poor demo experience. [emoji106]

Its a great bike, I wouldn't discourage you.

My biggest gripe is that w/ the 1299, you'll never have great fueling...best you can hope for is passable which makes it an exhausting bike to ride if your not in the mood that day.

I reckon that is rubbish. I never found my bike to have any fuelling problem. In first gear because the gearing was so high, it was a bit hard to ride in traffic sometimes but that was because it was designed to travel at high speeds. I put a 41 tooth sprocket on the back and fixed the dip in the torque with a Tuneboy map and that improved what was already a great bike.

There is nothing wrong with the front end feel of an ohlins equipped 1199.

I don't think anyone should buy a 1299. That way sales will tank, and when they offer unbelievable discounts I'll trade my 1199 for a 1299.

Your welcome ;)

I bet you it isn't as good as a S1kRR, R1 or RSV4 w/ similar mods. OP is looking for 1299 vs arguments.

My fueling is good, but it's not great (Termi, Sprint filter, RB race).

I love my 2012 1199S, I've owned it for a few months now, but there were many shortcomings. After spending a lot of money on upgrades my bike is finally close to how I like it.

Fueling is terrible. Full Termi exhaust and Up-map have been a big improvement.

Gearing is way too high. 14T front sprocket solved that.

Footpegs were very slippery. I believe they cured this on newer models. I bought Woodcraft Rearsets.

Too much play in the throttle. Throttle Spacers were a huge improvement. As were new grips.

Seat is too firm and not grippy enough. Haven't solved this yet, but I will probably order a custom seat soon. I heard newer models now have better seats though.

Dont do it. Save your money and continue to save and not buy something you may want in life.

saving is important so you can pass it onto someone when you die.

Just kidding.

Buy it, ride it, and enjoy it.

get tired of it? sell it, buy something else and enjoy life.

and save money to for your future retirement.

The bike was delivered two days ago. I had it delivered to a workshop owned by a friend of mine to have the whole bike treated with Opticoat paint protection. So with 5km on the clock, we disrobed her.

This is what has been done so far:

  • Akropovic Full Titanium exhaust. (loud, but sounds good. and so pretty)
  • Motobox Slimline LED Tail Light and Fender Eliminator Kit (not cheap, but looks they way it should have in the first place and works properly, turn signals are hard to see)
  • Ducati Performance Brake and Clutch Reservoirs. (looks better than plastic)
  • Ducati Performance Comfort Seat. (bum protector)
  • Ducati Performance Billet aluminium clutch casing cover. (looks good and protects the clutch)
  • Ducati Performance Radiator Grill. (looks good and protects the radiator)
  • Evotech Performance Oil Cooler Grill. (looks good and protects the oil cooler)
  • Panigale Throttle Spacers. (makes it smoother)
  • Underseat Heat management. (makes it cooler, yes it is possible to be too hot)

Planned changes:

  • Tuneboy, for the cruise (cuz I want to tour)
  • Shift-tech Subframe covers (cuz hot thighs)
  • Mods to the Motobox integrated taillight to sort out the crappy turn signals.

I've done 600kms on the weekend, lol the first service will be due soon at this rate.

Its an incredible thing.

Thanks for all of the kind words and encouragement guys.
