I walked out of my dealer yesterday after having tested two bikes back-to-back, new '23 Panigale V4S and a '24 Streetfighter V4. A separate BMW dealer allow test rides on all bikes EXCEPT their S1000RR which has nearly eliminated that bike from my shortlist.

As a 50yo, 6'2" 180lb guy who still finds sports bikes acceptably comfortable I am leaning towards the Panigale, but man that Streetfighter is fun.

My plan is to go to the dealer and buy the Panigale on Tuesday when they re-open but after reading through countless threads in this forum I feel like it would be stupid to not get input from knowledgeable folks.

This bike will replace a '17 RSV4RR, my typical use is 50mph+ back roads, 90min or less. Average only 1k miles a year lately but expect to have many more opportunities to ride going forward.

Couple of thoughts/questions I had
  • First, I'm not making a mistake taking the BMW off my list am I? $7k cheaper but hard to buy without experiencing one.
  • Should I pass on the '23 and get a '24 Panigale (dealer said 30-45 days to get it) unless there is a financial incentive to take the '23? I can't find any differences between the bikes?
  • Just seeing a thread about an "all new" '25 Panigale, makes me wonder if I'm stupid to buy a bike right before model change (if true).
  • Will a Termi slip-on that removes cat reduce engine heat? So much conflicting information and looking for real world experiences.
  • Any other must-have mods that improve comfort and experience of riding? Not looking for more HP, bike has plenty for my use case.
Thanks very much for any guidance you can share.

Wait 30 days for the 24

New bike maybe presented mid 25,appearing at late 25, (if it does happen

You can change up in 26

Bmw just are not as special, for the kind of use, you are describing

A slip on and some simple bolt ons will do

It is an awesome bike

Don't do it. Buy a used euro 4 version of either the Pani or SF. The Euro 5 BS is just that. They require more Ducati authorized service to keep the warranty. And you're pretty much stuck with the stock gearing. SF 42/15 (ridiculous), Pani 41/16.

mines Euro 5 and ive changed the gearing from std, recalibrate the tyre/wheel and no issues......

Ignore the "wait for the next model" advice. Get what you like, cant go wrong with any bike on your list including the RR

I went from 20 S1000RR to 23 Pani and absolutely love it. Chalk and cheese. Sounds like your type of riding will love it also and with this in mind don't worry about the heat because you won't feel it at all with a bit of gear on.

Also with you coming from the RSV4, I reckon your legs and knees are going to love you as you're tall. My ankle to knee length is long and i can't tuck my leg into the tank on an RSV4 properly without lowering my heel uncomfortably. Awesome bike to ride but at 6'2" it must be a tight fit!

Yes if you get the full race system that does not have the cats in it, it won’t roast you as much

I recently purchased a '23 V4S . Bike is unbelievable to ride and to stare at. To answer your question on heat , yes with a full Ti race system and a tune it does run cooler. Could be a result of both running richer and the cats not being involved any longer. Video below. One of the best purchases ive ever made. Not a single regret.

First, I wanted to say thank you for all the advice! I'm pulling trigger on a Panigale V4S.

Dealer is willing to sell 2023 V4S for $31,325k OTD or offering up 2024 model for roughly $1k more when they get their shipment in sometime in next 45 days or so.

A) I don't know if this is a good deal on the '23? Having a really hard time finding pricing info, comparable, market pricing. I have a trade-in so it limits my ability to shop outside my city and selling private is not something I want to deal with.
B) Any reason I should pay an extra $1000 USD to get a 2024 bike instead of the 2023? I can't think of any.

If you’re looking at it as a longer term keeper then I’d go the 23 and have the $1k towards an exhaust.

So I negotiated more off the '23 and the dealer provided strong trade-in value for my RSV4. Sold. 3 days and 110 or so miles later....

Man, this is a great bike. Much more upright riding position than my Aprilia. Stock exhaust much louder. Switchgear and TFT nicer, more premium feel. Bike feels planted, more compliant, Yes, it is hot: I would say it's easily 10% hotter than my RSV4 but reports about this bike being unbearable on the street seem overblown, granted I'm riding in 75F temps and not 95F temps. I'm still going to want to see if a race slip-on can cool things down. The Panigale feels significantly lighter than the Aprilia, the auto shifter noticeably smoother. Still doesn't sound as good as the Aprilia V4 but everything about this Ducati is better. Very happy with my purchase, heading off to CSS to learn how to extract the most out of this thing.

Congrats! Go with a full system if you can! sound is phenomenal. It definitely helped with the heat as well. I’m sure a slip on would do the same.
